not a ranger but a mustang

So a friend of mine just picked up a white 95 cobra. i was looking around at it and i opened the hood and was very surprised it was not a 5.0..........it is a 5.8 did the cobra ever come in a 5.8? he and i are un-sure of this and would like to know if anyone has any input. it also came from the factory with no radio which i thought was a little odd.

thanks Dave

95 should be a 5.0 stock.

5.8 is some type of stroker kit i think.

Got pictures??

Somebody swapped in a 351W engine if it has the 5.8L motor.

94-95 Cobras are OK cars, cheaper than the '93s too.

You should have your buddy contact SVT to find out for sure. Another possibility of finding out is here.

Is it white? If it is he may have an extremely rare car.

i'm pretty sure they did. look it up. there were like 500 pace cars that had it as an option. it came w/a stand to store it vertically.

(halfway into the first paragraph)

http://svtcobraclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9138

according to this, if the OP's is a legit 95 cobra "R". then it's one of 250 made.

Hmm well I learned something new. I know a lot about mustangs, but never saw that till today. Yeah from what the svtregistry was saying. It would be 1 of 250 if its legit. Which makes me wonder what he paid for it!

from what i can guess is 94 had only 500 that were given this option. then 95 you could order it as an option. it was then discontinued since it wasn't popular and probably a pain to swap.

I'd say he got pretty lucky and got a cobra R...but it could very well also have been a 6cyl and someone took the time and swapped out engines and added everything to make it a "cobra clone" I've seen this done several times..but very rarely have engines been swapped out..unless something major was wrong with said original motor. comparing vin and the numbers on the block and what not with the registry should let you know wither he was handed a deal or screwed over.

Its pretty doubtful that somebody would throw a 351 in a mustang, IIRC those engines came in a ton of stuff, but in the mid 90's it only came in trucks, so swapping one into a mustang would have meant taking it from an older car. so i'd defiantly check the numbers, start with the VIN, i think 10th digit will tell you what motor should have came in the car.

You'd be surprised. 351's get swapped into mustangs all the time.
