Notes on torsion key flipping...

If you're going to even bother lowering a truck, you're going to end up investing in 17" or larger (sometimes significantly larger) wheels and tires, and the added unsprung weight is only going to complicate the already compromised suspension geometry of a flipped ranger. I can't believe more of you don't see this for what it is, which is playing with fire.

You guys are being completely irresponsible to portray it as anything but unsafe. Maybe you think I'm a douchebag, and thats fine. I just hope I don't get to say "I told you so" when you end up rolled over in a ditch. I really don't wish it on anybody, esp. the n00bs who don't know enough to make an informed decision, who might read just one post about "I did it, its fine" and decide that its safe for them too. Anyway, name-calling seems to be the only thing that gets your attention anyway.
At the end of the day I only hope this thread persuades more readers NOT to do unsafe modifacations than it persuades to take chances with their lives and the lives of other motorists by crippling their trucks' suspensions.

I did the key flip on my truck. The torsion bars are not coming out. I have been riding on them for a while now. For some reason my truck rode like crap while it was at its factory level. My ride is a little better now that I flipped my keys. I flipped the keys and put the tension bolts back in it to give it a little more pressure so they wouldnt just slip out. I plan on going with a hydro set up and will be getting rid of the bars all together. I did a rear axle flip on my rear so that may have had some sort of effect on the ride I am not sure. The back sits about 2 inches lower than the front does as of right now. Also I dont plan on going with bigger rims. I personally think that bigger rims are really out played and I hate hearing people talking about rims on trucks. I want to go for a more old school low rider look. I am thinking about getting 15 to 17 inch spoke wheels. I dont think my truck would look right on anything smaller than 15s, although a friend of mine has a nissan mini rolling on 13 inch supremes and it looks pretty nice. Getting new rims and sound for my truck is the last on my list.
first off your both right and wrong. there is no way in hell they were that loose if thats the case there was some other problem.
and yes its dangerous and when hitting a bump they can come loose luckly when it happend to me i was going slow (10mph) pulling into a driveway with a big curb poped the sucker right out landed the inner fender on the tire thats what changed my mind as well as the **** ride

So after reading everyone saying how easy the bars fall out when the keys are flipped I went out to my truck and tried to yank the bars out. I used a rubber hammer to try to knock them out also. They did no move any. When you all flip your keys are you putting the adjuster bolt back in to give some tension on the bar or is it just left out totally?

theres no need to knock...
i jacked the front up....put in jackstands under front crossmember...removed the metal/plastic whatever cover that hides the keys...my goal was to only pull enough of it out to get the key off the bar and reverse it, then reinstall...
i had to pull with minor to mediocre effort on my part before the key slid out of its origional position...then some finagleing and fidgeting and i got the whole bar out...no tools required..
