How safe is this??(another and hopfully the last towing guestion from me)
Ok, i just found out that my bumper hitch is rated at 2,000 pounds with 200 pounds tongue weight, how accurate is this rating specificly on the tongue weight, my trailer wieghs about 1800 pounds but i currently have 250 pounds of tongue weight and there isnt a hole lot of options on repacking the trailer, so my question is will the bumper hitsh on my 89 hold up or will i kill the bumper?? My goal is to get a reciever hitch in the next 2 months and i have maybe 6-8 gigs in between now and then, the distances are less than 10 miles one way but several of the gigs i have to go up a kinda steep hill. so in everyone's opinion am i safe, or sould i look into a rental vehicle for these gigs??

LOL.....if it's not found online, forget about it. Go outside, are you crazy??
Going through a junk yard is awesome, especially if you actually come out with what you went for.

Take it around the block, and see what you think. I'll bet there is some pretty hefty guys that have stepped on these bumpers, and I'd bet they didn't bend. If you think i'll be safe after a short tow. Then use it that way until you get a receiver hitch, but don't waste any time finding one.
A few questions.
How did you measure tongue weight?
How did you get your estimate of trailer weight?

Please do not tow with your bumper, the bumpers on these trucks are a joke, I mean they bend so easy and are so weak, I can't even believe that you would want to pull with it (I know you have limited options). Trust me when I say that it isn't a sturdy piece of equipment and pulling any more than a jet ski on it would be pushing it in my book. You have to think about hills and fast stops, sharp turns and bumps. Its not just the weight, its everything that you must take into account........

Well at least now im not gonna feel comfortable about it, but right now i dont have alot of options, i just dont have to cash on hand to get a reciever yetand with this damn weather, killing my gigs, it may be longer untill i can get a reciever, but like i said, they are all short distance (under 10 miles one way), and there is a hill involved in one or 2 of them ut its not that bad so i will have to get by on a wing and a prayer, i guess. Well thanks for the help guys. Im gonna try and rebalance the trailer so i can atleast hopefully get that 250 pounds of tounge weight down closer to 200.
