Paint Price Question

How much do you think it would cost to get the bed painted..minor body work and stock black nothin special just paint..

im going to start pluggin holes this weekend and hopefully install the cell in a few weeks and i dont want primer patches so paint time baby!

gatorblue92 07-25-2007 06:27 PM

well it depends on if you do the prep work or not... i got a quote for painting the benz for $3000 including all prep work with the best stuff you can buy  if that helps any

zabeard 07-25-2007 06:30 PM

I would think around $1000

I had my drivers side bed side tore up bad when this chick tried to fit between me and a gate.

They had to smooth it all out and repaint it.

Cost was $550

depends on how much they have to smooth to make it perfect.

3K including the "best" materials? thats not bad. for a complete paint job about $1K is what youll spend in materials alone for good stuff.

if you are looking for a cheaper job in a 2 stage paint, youll spend $1500 minimum depending how bad the truck is, and what kind of shop you plan on going too. id be shocked if theyll paint the doorjambs for that price though so keep the truck the same color.

as far as i know its just the bed he wants to paint.

Sixt9coug 07-25-2007 08:49 PM

duh on me. if i read more carefully id have seen that. figure about $800 or so then. decent paint, taking into account a few dings, and just the exterior of the bed.

zabeard 07-25-2007 09:05 PM

its cool. i knew what he wanted before i even read the post. lol

My91Ranger 07-25-2007 09:14 PM

Ah just paint it urself. You obviously have the skills to do the rest of the work like the body work, prep work, shaving the tail lights, why not just finish the job off?

Sixt9coug 07-25-2007 10:17 PM

if hes got a gun and a capable compressor, it wouldnt be that hard to do.

roll of overspray sheeting - $20
quart of black basecoat (good) - $70
reducer for paint - $15 quart
Quart of good clearcoat with activator - $100
Misc - tape sandpaper, pre cleaners, tack rags, thinner for cleanup - $75

LEARNING how to fish?...................

i do have a paint booth at work my truck can fit in..but im kinda pressed for time on this one..id have to do so much research cuz i would want it to turn out good..so im going tomorrow well today to the body shop to get an estimate..

zabeard 07-26-2007 05:00 AM

Evan paint it sonic blue! ;)

HighRollerII 07-26-2007 06:08 AM

hmm...that paint is expensive as crap..if i was painting the cab as well right now id think about it..

casfz1 07-26-2007 06:08 AM

If it was me I would paint the whole truck because most shops will not be able to match it even with factory paint. When I had my black 88 ranger I had the bed painted at the dealer I was working for at the time and you could see the difference in the sun. Black is a hard color to match because if it is just a shade off you will be able to tell in the sun.

zabeard 07-26-2007 06:12 AM

if that is the case Sonic Blue is sounding really good ;)

KARPE 07-26-2007 06:59 AM

boo sonic blue. get the new vista blue - a true blue. Someone accidentally dropped a bit of red into the Sonic Blue mixer and ...well... you know how that turned out.

When I had my bed painted on my 98 and they fixed a dent under the tailight that was the size of a softball due to me backing into something and total repaint it was $500. That seems about the ballpark for it. And the shop I went to have it done at was top qaulity so it wasnt just a cheap spray job.
