with all the people wanting to have a V8 ranger, and since ford probably never will in America, why dont they jsut replace one of the V6 engines with a DOHC like in the Taraus's... i dunno just an idea>>

Everyone I've heard says that's one nice lil' duratec engine. What is it, 245 horsepower and pretty damn fast? WHat's your motor, just for comparison?

I don't know. What vehicle comes with both SOHC and DOHC?

the mustang used to.... reg gt was a sohc, mach 1 was the cobra motor minus the S/C which is a dohc, and the mach 1 would beat the reg gt with the sohc

So, you would rather have the Taurus Duratec with 201 hp / 207 lb-ft than the Ranger's 4.0L with 207 hp / 238 lb-ft?

well what i was going by was the 3.0ohv never looked at the specs of the SOHC just figured that two was better then one... guess not

::EDIT:: now that a read that link closer, thats a 3.0 engine, im talking about a 4.0 DOHC, i never (atleast i dont think) said that i wanted a taurus engine, i said that they should do something like what they did with the taurus, a ohv engine and a dohc...

if it was a 4.0l dohc it would then be much faster then the 4.0l sohc...

I love dohc motors when it comes to changing spark plugs, unless the motor is sitting sideways like in an escpae/tribute/mariner.

the cougar 2.5 was to little engine for such a heavy car.

the duretech motors in the taurus are REALLY quick for what they are. i lost twice outta 16 races in our 1998 before we sold it.

as for a DOHC 4.0, i dont see it happening. ford will most likely add a third valve with the varible valve timing set up (if they dont already use it) instead. i hope the next version of the 4.0, if they keep it around, has more low end torque.

The buzz is that they will have a 3.5 duratech DOHC. That will be one to have since the 3.0 duratech has the performance of a 4.0 sohc.

I dont expect the 4.0 to go anywhere.. I mean they put it in the stang now...
It may get upgrades but I expect the basic engine to stay the same.. ie block.
or with minor changes.
I do wish they would ditch the 3.slow but it would be too much competition
with the 4.0(unless upgraded)

I heard a rumor that they were going to take the escape, 500, and freestyle 3.0 DOHC and punch it out to 3.5L and keep the DOHC set up. The 3.0 DOHC and 4.0L SOHC have simular HP an Torq, difference is the torque is at a higher RPM on the 3.0 DOHC which is useless in a truck. I was assumeing that this 3.5L DOHC would make its way into the ranger but that was before the 4.0L went in the new stang so the 4.0 is going to stick around for a while. However if this 3.5L comes out with torq in a useful rpm range maybe the 4.0L SOHC we have now can replace the old 3.slow in the ranger and this new 3.5L DOHC can replace the 4.0L SOHC has top motor in the ranger.

Personally I want a diesel. I wish they would take the 6.0L diesel and cut the front 2 cylinders off and make me a 4.5 L V6 diesel.
