Poor Gas Mileage

Hi all,

I am wondering if others are having the same issue.

I have a 2008 Ford Ranger FX4 with 15k miles, had tires rotated and 3 oil changes. I am running a K&N air filter which is dusty which I will address in a moment.

I have been normally getting 14 to 15 mpg, but recently, I have been getting 12 to 13 mpg.

The stealership wanted my fuel filter changed but I have driven the truck since I bought it Feb 2008.

Any thoughts from the forum? Any help will be appreciated.

I will clean the air filter this week, and will get the tires rotated. The truck is not pulling to one side or the other, so the alignment should be spot on.

Thanks,

Mark

What area do you drive in? Hilly, terrain, traffic, etc? Seems like your right foot needs adjustment.

Change the fuel fliter. My buddy just changed his in a F-150 and it was full of rust. F-150's have plastic tanks. So you never really know whats going in your tank.

For a new truck that is insanely poor milage.

What are your driving habits like? Is it a stick or auto? With the truck being so new I can't imagine any reasons why your fuel filter would be clogged up.

I average about 16-17mpg out of my stock 4.0 5spd with over 250k on it, and I dont think my fuel filter has ever been changed.

I live in S Florida, all flat, no hills been hot lately, so I have been running the air. I do tend to have a heavy foot, but I am in stop and go traffic running parts.
I do have a 5 speed auto.

How can the fuel filter go bad in a year? I drove a Tacoma 2wd for 3 years with 94k miles and I do not recall changing the filter.

Stop and go traffic, and a lead foot will do it. Also I try and change my fuel filter every other oil change. It always comes out filthy
