possible recall? need ford employees

my 07 might be having some problems... the valve stems especially the rear ones seem to keep losing air over a 3-4 month period, well I go to leave today low and behold my TPS is on, so I go and check all the wheels, I get 29.5, 31.2, 32, and one of the tires won't read I tried 2 different gauges to check... my digi gauge says 0psi the tire is cupping really bad, the old school gauge says 10 psi... I can basically go out there and squeze it... I'm starting to think its the valve stem because there is always one tire that goes down a lot every 3 months...

what I wanna know is, was there a Ford Recal on these valve stems or tires???

Fx4wannabe01 08-10-2009 09:43 PM

Cody....alot can happen in 2 years time to tires.... sticks, screws, wear, etc. I'm not seeing any valve stem recalls or TSB's for a '07 Ranger.

zabeard 08-10-2009 09:43 PM

none that i see.

GrafixGuy 08-10-2009 09:48 PM

did the soapy water test around the whole tire looks clean...no air bubles

Sixt9coug 08-10-2009 09:50 PM

From Ford? I couldnt find anything. There was a HUGE valve stem recall that you might want to look into though.

need to inspect those lil buggers...

I have a job interview at 5pm tomorrow, so i hope I can get this crap fixed.

Lord Of War 08-10-2009 10:00 PM

Check them once a week. 10psi is going to phuck your MPG and your tires quick.

morris 08-11-2009 12:28 AM

i've been lucky, mind you mine is an 08' the only time my light came on was in the winter and that is common up here cuz air pressure drops in the cold.

fourliter dan 08-11-2009 12:44 AM

could be your valve cores... thoose just thread in and out but you have to have the right tool, and new cores. tire places will have them and its cheaper to start there than new tires. you could do the same soapy h2o test but in the stem its self, as goes for around the stem as well

GrafixGuy 08-11-2009 07:26 AM

looks worse this morning going to the dealer...

Redneckstone 08-11-2009 07:35 AM

I know explorers have a valve stem problem

darkstar_420 08-11-2009 08:12 AM

try soapy water in a spray bottle, and if you wanna check the valve core just air it up and put some spit on your finger and then apply it to the valve core to see if it bubbles

GrafixGuy 08-11-2009 09:23 AM

fixed... checked those stems they were not the recalled DILL brand... working in daylight helped me find a nail in there, got it plugged and I'm good to go... also found out that with the TPS system I don't need to run those fancy chrome stem covers because they will corrode overtime and stick to the threads, not cool...

agree

Do you have rubber valve stems or bolted in TPMS sensors?

If you have the DILL brand of valve stem, just head over to discount tire and get them replaced and they will get you a form to send in to DILL to get reimbursed.

I saw on the news a few mnths ago that ford was goin to do a recall on ALL 07+ valve stems on ALL ford vehicles. There have been several related accidents and law suits againts ford for that reason related to the bad valve stems that would leak air or just let go!! I would check with your local ford dealer and see. 09bamaranger took his in and said they did have a recall on the stems but did not have a TPS out on it.

GrafixGuy 08-11-2009 10:06 AM

I'll check on it next time I get the oil changed, I checked the stems and they look really good, glad my tire is fixed!

It wasnt Ford's fault. Technically, it was DILL, a valve stem manufacturer, that was at fault. Many places were proactive in replacing these valves stems free of charge when DILL was denying anything and everything about it. Finally, DILL was forced to issue a recall on all valve stems manufactured between August of 2006 and July of 2007. You should thank Ford, Discount Tire, and many other places for staying proactive towards these things when DILL was trying to avoid it. Ask me how I know...I was there

valve stems

just google "tire valve stem recall" theres 30 million made in china defective stems out there.

Mark98xlt 08-12-2009 09:22 AM

Yeah I got a piece of mail from ford last week talking about this recall.

malydeen 08-12-2009 09:57 AM

WINDEX! Its what we use at work for looking for leaks. Since it is a soap product it bubbles. Spray it on and look for bubbles.

You have band sensors, not bolt in stem style sensors. You can run whatever kind of cap you want and it will not corrode. In all the tires I have worked on I have never had a cap corrode on to a rubber stem.

Bolt-on TPMS sensors are a different story, but you dont have to worry about that.

Hate to break the news to you but pretty much all valve stems are made in China. Even Shreider (the company that invented the Schreider valve) makes their stems over seas.

malydeen 08-12-2009 09:59 AM

double post

IN2 FX4 08-12-2009 12:17 PM

This must be the reason one of the valve stems began leaking from when I got new tires in 07. I usually don't get new valve stems when I get new tires but the tire dealer talked me into getting new ones installed. When I brought the truck back in this year because of the leaking valve stem they decide to change them all. Maybe they knew about the valve stem recall.

I've never had a vehicle with TPMS, people seem to hate it, but in this case it did get him to finally pay adequate attention to his tires and then find the nail.
