My spring code is 11cc. What are my factory leaf springs capacity? 1250? or 1750? Nobody seems to have that answer. Not even the dealer

but my 06 4.0 is able to tow 5600pounds according to manual. some vendors online say springs are rated for 1250. does that make any sense? where did u get that info from?

if your leaf springs have 5 leaves then YES 1250 lbs

factory leaf springs only have 3 , the fx4 level came with 4 leaves

i dealt with a spring place that does leaf springs for both pickups and heavy trucks

their leaf spring catalogue cleary stated 750 lbs

they even did a 500 pound cinder block weight test
( 1 pallet plus cinder blocks weighing 500 lbs )

the frame bump stop was compressed against the axle tube

my leaf springs could not even handle 500 lbs , and they were the 3 leaf pack

My factory springs were 3 + 1. Ive seen heavier duty ones that are 4 + 1. If I only had a total of 4 leafs from the factory, why is my truck rated at 5600 pounds towing capacity?

you are mistaking trailer weight for trailer hitch tongue weight

2 different catagories

your trailer hitch tongue weight is rated for 350 pounds factory

it states the maximum weight that your pickup can tow AS equipped from the factory is rated for 5600 pounds PULLING capacity

NOT weight carrying capacity

ok, well I ended up getting heavy duty Dayton Springs. This company can custom make leaf packs that fit our rangers. I got a factory replacement with 5 leafs instead of the standard 4. I should get 600 more pounds towing capacity out of these new springs. So, anyone that doesn't have the extra money for skyjackers, or doesn't want the headache of trying to make them fit, I would take a look at Dayton. Good product , low price, and the ride and towing capacity is a lot better than before. I know, getting rid of the blocks is always the better option, but between money, time, and headaches, I went with this direct fit option. http://www.daytonparts.com/dpweb/App...ter_iframe.asp

higher bed payload capacity DOES NOT increase your towing capacity

your ranger is calculated from ford to tow a trailer and it`s contents along a level surface that DOES NOT exceed more than 5,600 pounds

I understand that, But it increases the weight I can place on the back. Plus it does ride better

higher capacity leaf springs DO NOT increase the trailer hitches rated tongue weight capacity

ford does manufacture their trucks trailer hitches

the manufacturer rates the hitch for 350 pounds maximum

any more than that and you risk breaking the hitch away from the frame , and there are legality issues as well .

if you place more than the rated weight on the hitch and it fails and breaks away from the frame .

you can suffer legal litigation from any states DOT , plus personal law suits
