question for winter weather guys

Well we almost got there........fuses (maybe), motor burnt out (maybe), 100 replies about letting your truck warm up and using X products to clean your windshield.....crazy.
Sure those work, but it sounds like the OP has a mechanical failure with his wiper ARMS.

I had a similar issue happen a few years back and I was >< this close to taking it in to a shop......I had no wiper function. Checked all the fuses and read the manual over and over. We had a dump of wet snow and then it got mild..........melting the snow, then froze overnight. Well all the slush had gotten down where the wiper arms are and under there was a solid block of ice.....totally freezing the wiper arms down.
This "could" be your issue as you mentioned freezing rain. Take some warm water (in a pail or if your lucky enough to have hot/cold water in your garage, use that). Use the water to melt the ice build up and free your wiper arms.
Let me know what comes from it.

After work when all the ice was gone and it was 40 degrees again they worked fine.

IMO, it doesn't hurt if a thread takes a little detour if the topic is related - if it doesn't help the OP, it may just help someone else who happens to browse the thread.
After all, it's a forum, and in the nature of such, an open exchange of information is beneficial to all members.
FWIW, the symptons the OP described could also have meant that there was a problem in the wiper linkage under the cowl (e.g., that it was bent or loose) - didn't see that mentioned earlier on in the thread.
If the flow of information just stopped after the OP mentioned that the "problem" had resolved itself when the weather warmed up, then all the additional information wouldn't have even been posted.
A lot of questions can just be answered "yes" or "no" - that's not always a lot of help when someone is searching for elaboration or extra information.
