Radar detectors detect when the cops radar is going off in the area, its the Lazer that tells you when your hooped unless your lucky enough to be doing the speed limit at the time. there is no warning for a Lazer. and to confirm what someone said about unless your dead alone on a road then youve usually got some time to break before hes got your vehicle locked in. I have a highway and a city setting on mine and the highway will pick up radar for up to 2 or 3 miles away, but even with my radar detector on ive always got my eyes peeled for 5-0. I wouldnt just throw it on your dash and hope for it to go off when a cop is around, you should also keep an eye out and use the radar detector as a back up plan. But i have a Belltronics 995 which was one of the best one on the market a year or 2 ago and i paid around 700 bucks canadian it was also on sale. personally i would recommend belltronics if your gonna buy any radar detector.

ive never gotta ticket in the 4 yrs ive been driving. knock on wood. im a delivery driver now and if you get a ticket you get fired so im ALWAYS on the lookout for cops. but im somewhat interested in a radar detector as well since christmas is coming up and i need to give the family some ideas. how does the cops radar work? i usually just see them parked under overpasses or hiddin somewhere w/ either the gun out the window or just sitting there. what kinda radar are the using doing both of those and can the radar while theyre moving?

youll never get caught with a jammer tho unless you make it obvious looking. you arent supposed to let it just jam cops lasers always, you leave it on all the time and then when you get a laser shot at you it makes a loud beeping noise. then you slow down real quick to the speed limit and turn the jammer off, that way the cop sees on his gun that you arent speeding because you no longer are.

Radar detector's aren't much help if the officer is utilizing quick trigger or instant-on. By the time a radar detector goes off it's too late.

I have a Whistler XTR-690 that I got thru my job for 40% off. It worked pretty good, but I think the heat got to it, as the display is dim on one end, and sometimes it goes off even when I have the volume on silent, so I took it down.

I use to depend on my radar detector. I have just a plain Cobra, cost me about $80. It has laser, emergency warning and the rest or the norms. It is hardwired into my fuesebox. I have gotten 2 tickets, the officers were hidden sitting on 2 lane roads. I drive up an down I-95, 26 & 20. I never pay any attention to my radar detector anymore. I don't do anymore than 10 over the speed limit on the interstate. It tells me they are there and they do not move. I won't go any faster. Most of the local oficers around town have told me they wont mess with 10 miles over unless you are attracting attention to yourself. I stick with the speed limit in town and 5 miles over on 2 lane country roads. My wallet has felt the hurt. No radar detector will can guarantee you will never get a ticket.

even if you had a jammer and the cop radars/lazers hes gonna see your front end drop and assume somethings up and could pull you over regardless because cops arent stupid.
Cops have 2 radars one in the front and one in the back, usually you get your lazy cop that just leaves it on and those are the easiest ones to find, but sometimes you get the "trying to make the monthly quota cop" whos sitting in the ditch off the road or at the top of a hill radaring people with his hand held gun and those are the ones you gotta keep your eyes peeled for.

okay, what you do is paint your truck with RAM (radar absorbent material)

and buy a V1... well, those were top of the line several years ago, my dad has one. picks up on several kinds of radar and lets you know when youve been tagged with a lazer so you can start the math for how many points youre gonna get on your license lol. he has a bmw bike and a porsche that he runs pretty hard every now and then, no ticket yet.

above all though, a radar detector wont replace you actually THINKING and keeping an eye out. people know where cops hide or are likely to be, just pay attention. and chances are, if you see an 18 wheeler that was doing ilke 10 over slow way up its because someone on his CB told him there were cops around... its the details that save you, the detector is just a 2nd line of defense

This is why you always drive with a rabbit, a car ahead of you that is going your speed. Then the cop will instant on the car ahead which will give you enough time to slow down. If I had to recommend a radar detector I would say the escort 9500.

At least in MN they do not take pictures. There just there to remind you to slow down I guess.
