Regear question
Regearing is a more specialized thing to do. Typically when you regear, you want to use a regear overhaul kit which comes with extra shims, seals and things like that. Ring and pinion gears require very good clearances and alignment for backlash, pinion depth, etc.
so you would want a new gear set and overhaul kit to do it properly

It is often easier for a DIYer to replace the whole rear axle than the ring/pinion
1993 to 2009 Rangers and Mazda B-series used the same axles, 7.5" or 8.8" are interchangeable
And they are not that hard to swap in, no special tools or knowledge required
If you have a 4x4 then BOTH axles need to be geared the same
How to tell what axles are what seen here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...le_codes.shtml
A limited slip(L/S) is best, GM calls it Posi-traction, Ford calls it Trac-Lok
2010/2011 Ranger rear axles also work but they had Disc brakes so add a layer of modifications to earlier brake systems, but can be worth while
Speedometer may need correction either way, depends on the YEAR of the Ranger as to how that is done
