Ok, do NOT just go buy the first remote starter kit you find because it is "only $50" and would be cool. You can not just put any old remote starter in these trucks. You need one that will bypass the PATS anti-theft system and it makes the installation a little more complicated. You need an add-on module, a spare key, and more wiring. It is also not for someone who has no clue how to do quality wiring. Hint, if you are using duct tape and wire nuts, take it to a professional to have it done.

I use the Bulldog RS-1200E, it was only I think $75.00 or so and you need to order the PATS bypass kit as well.

Yeah what FireRanger said. If you ddn't know what you are doing do not try to do it yourself, I have one of the bulldog remote starters, I got it off of ebay for like $25. It works great know that I have it in, but it was really hard to hookup, I had to search all over the internet to get the wireing diagram, and then you have to get the pats bypass module to get around the factory alarm (or just leave a key in the ignition), and then you have to either use your second key to put in the bypass module, or get another key made from ford. If you have good knowledge about wires and don't mind cutting wires under your dash then you could do it yourself but BE CAREFULE before you cut wires, if you don't know what you are doing I recommend having somebody else do it.

On some 99's, which I beleive he has, there was no PATS, as I have a remote starter / alarm, and have no problem with it.

As with what the others said, If your using wire nuts and duct tape, let someone else do it, I knew well enough what had to be done, and had someone that builds navigation systems for warheads for a living on call if I needed help.

Well, if you don't have the PATS thing, your life will be easier. However, I can't stress enough how much you can screw your truck to hell if you don't know your way around the electrical system.

I asked my dealer that, if I could get it later on, and he told me that theres a subcompany around here, that offer to do that, and it shouldn't void the warrenty. it could be different in other areas, but im not totally sure. I guess the best thing to do, is check with you dealer and see what they got.
