Removing the floor mat hook

Removing the floor mat hook
My last two Rangers had factory floor mats that utilized a plastic hook added at the factory to keep the mat from shifting around. My current one I purchased used, and no factory mats. So that *#($ed tab was a pain the way it stuck up off the floor. So today I removed it as well as added after-market floor mats.
In my quest to find out how to remove it, I found......... zip........... on the innernets.
So this thread is here for anyone who wants to remove that thing. First thing I found is it's not attached to the floor pan at all. It's attached to the carpet only. All you need to remove it is a small flat screwdriver or similar tool. You need to push it under the front of the hook.
Once in place, just twist the screwdriver and it will pop apart.
Slide the piece towards the seat to remove it.
Unfortunately, you will be left with two holes in your carpet. This was no issue for me as the new mats went right over them.
So here's the secret to this thing: It's just a snap-together connection.
You need to push your screwdriver in the right spot, or you won't be able to push on the tab correctly to release it. Your screwdriver needs to go in where the red is in this picture:
Once it's open, it becomes obvious how it can be removed.
Of course, when it's installed, you just can't see it from this angle. Hence, I'm posting it here for you if you ever want to remove it.
Just my little PSA for the day.
