You should be able to get a class III from a dealer for under $170

Not on mine. Ive had my bumper off 3 or 4 times. its 2 or 3 bolts on each side. I think I just used a 3/4 inch socket

MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT YOUR PLATE LIGHTS!!!!! i ALMOST RIPPED THEM OUT ONCE!

And 2 bolts on each side would total 4 right. 2 + 2= 4

Wow 300? Are they going to give you any lube or just bend you over and stick it in?

You can pick one up new for $100-150 and installation is really easy.

Yeah man its basically remove 4 bolts stick the thing up there and put the bolts back in. In reality you dont have to "mod" anything.

Lazler 01-25-2009 08:03 PM

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be easy but i don't wanna install in then pull my trailer and have it fall off lmao

Mykhael 01-25-2009 08:05 PM

You got me there.

But seriously, $300 is too much. Make it your first DIY job.

Lazler 01-25-2009 08:17 PM

I'll get that hitch cause i love the tube look and i'll install it myself lol

because 300 is a lot for a hitch. but my guess is most of that money is coming from labor. save some money, do it yourself. trust me its so easy! just torque the bolts after. and it takes no time at all. just get a second person to help you put it in place.

04blackedge 01-25-2009 08:20 PM

Yeah putting it in place yourself sucks, I had to bench press it up there on my back and then hold it with one arm and put the bolts in with the other. It was intresting

Igobytwitch 01-25-2009 08:24 PM

I used a floor jack to hold up the hitch and 2 bottle jacks to hold the bumper from falling. talk about akward

Lazler 01-25-2009 08:26 PM

lol i can lift it no problem being fat makes you lift a little more.. but just hoping i don't drop it on myself trying to get the bolts in.. lmfao

98liftedranger 01-25-2009 08:30 PM

Wow way to jack the **** outta this thread!

Lazler 01-25-2009 08:32 PM

I have a 1998 Ranger short cab XLT. The bolts to the frame (4) refuse to un-screw to remove the rear bumper. It seems there is a metal link from one bolt to the other bent over to prevent the bolts from loosening. Has any one experienced this in removing a rear bumper? The socket is 18mm. The bolts will not budge. It may be the tabs are welded to the bolts. I tried everything with no luck.
