Removing Rear bumper

I need to remove my rear bumper. Suppose to be a ice/snow storm rolling in tommrow. I need to know what size socket I need and how many bolts.

Got to get this thing off and shipped ASAP

Lazler 01-25-2009 07:31 PM

Riceman 01-25-2009 07:31 PM

Four 18mm head bolts, straight up on the braces.

Top secret my son. Stay tuned. Better aerodynamics less weight

I wont have to remove my hitch will I? :15:

I think its a 17mm or 19mm, number of bolts I do not remember. I'm pulling up the BL instructions right now to double check.

Nope. Hitch actually comes in handy, can unbolt the bumper and it rests on the hitch instead of falling. Be sure to disconnect your taglights.

98liftedranger 01-25-2009 07:37 PM

Its 4 19mm bolts and you will have to take the hitch off it is is mounted under the bumper.

Son? That makes you look old ;) and hitch is on the frame not the bumper lol

The bumper mounts to the frame...

Riceman 01-25-2009 07:40 PM

You WILL NOT have to remove the hitch. The hitch mounts to the frame under the bumper, not to the bumper. They are entirely independant of each other.

Mykhael 01-25-2009 07:42 PM

Lazler 01-25-2009 07:43 PM

I JUST turned 19 lmao

Riceman 01-25-2009 07:43 PM

Eating my own words... An aftermarket hitch may share the bumpers mounting points. The factory class III hitch (like mine) will not have to be removed.

04blackedge 01-25-2009 07:45 PM

Yeah it depends who made the hitch, someone mount different than others.

Lazler 01-25-2009 07:46 PM

I'm getting a tube hidden hitch for 300 installed

factory one mounts on the four bumper mounts and then an additional 2 mounts on the sides of the frame

aftermarket ones, most only mount on the bumper mounts

Not on mine. Ive had my bumper off 3 or 4 times. its 2 or 3 bolts on each side. I think I just used a 3/4 inch socket

MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT YOUR PLATE LIGHTS!!!!! i ALMOST RIPPED THEM OUT ONCE!

04blackedge 01-25-2009 07:50 PM

3/4 and 19mm is almost the same

Wow 300? Are they going to give you any lube or just bend you over and stick it in?

You can pick one up new for $100-150 and installation is really easy.
