Has anybody ever done this themselves? Im wanting to do both...Ive been told that the back is a relatively simple task. Should I just take them to an installer or do it myself?

 

If you make a mess with that urethane you will be sorry. That stuff stains forever. Get it on the headliner and you will be replacing that too. Plus glass is heavy, big and awkward to hold. You would need 2 people, plus the suction cup tool.

 

I would just have it done. You don't want to take a chance on breaking the glass. I know from experience, it really sucks.

 

Windshield: Have it done for you, professionally.

Backglass: Do it yourself. It's held in with a bunch of nuts, and studs are molded in the frame itsself. Pull your rear plastics to gain access to the studs, un bolt the old glass, apply a thin layer of Eurothane, place glass in body, thread nuts, tighten it up in an even fashion, done.

 

^ werd. I just had my windshield replaced the other day

$127.50 for the windshield itself, $28 for the urethane and $65 for the window re & re.

Total of like $248.50.

Last time I tried to salvage a window from a parts truck, I shattered it when I pressed too hard on it.

 

If you don't have the right tools its a ***** to do. I went to the junk yard and broke 10 windshields trying to get my dad on for his truck. he finally paid to have on removed at a yard

 

There's a bunch of specialty tools used to cut the eurothane adhesion. If you dont have it, dont do it. Old windshields that use a gasket, you can install and un-install yourself...but newer vehicles that use eurothane and a trim piece, like rangers, i'd suggest a professional doing the job.
