I read that cutting out the frame where it is rusted the rear shackle area and welding in a piece of good material frame would weaken this area or should I buy a frame repair piece that fits over this area and welded would be the stronger way to go. Any thoughts/ ideas/ experience appreciated. Thanks

 

If it was me I would treat the rusted area to stop the rust, paint the area then put in new material well past the problem area - welded in by a competent welder.
