Lol... you posted in the internet... you opened your crazy ideas for judgement... I prefer to "show off" while driving by not blowing my truck up and safely getting myself and my passenger to the destination w/o incident... lol

 

I don't have any tricks but a reason why diesels are easier to shift clutchless. Diesel motors run at a lower rpm, so the whole driveline is moving slower. I've done it on my dad's f150 inline 6, '93 or so, and the only time i'm successful is going from 3rd to 5th at around 25mph. Hope this is useful for you!

 

yeah its pretty fun, i just enjoy doing stuff while im driving, i have never ground my gears or especially blown a tranny from it

 

I'll shift without the clutch from time to time. It's all about matching RPM's with the gear ratio. Won't do any damage if you don't grind. I did it all the time in my old 2wd ranger.

I ALWAYS use the tranny to slow me down. Regardless of the situation. Saves my brakes and I know the tranny like the back of my hand from having to take it out and put new ones in from time to time. They were designed to be able to up shift when slowing down, so why not take advantage of it. My roommate swears up and down it's horrible for a tranny to slow you down.... Yet I have yet to come across a situation where someones tranny has broken or parts of it have broken from using it to slow you.

thanks trepaul, thats exactly what i have been trying to tell these guys, tranny's weren't built out of paper, they can take a beating, and besides, if you dont grind the gears like you said, there is no harm.

 

i find that if you get big enough tires and stock gears your only gonna be going 35 in fifth gear so thats a pretty good trick. haha i guess. nah but your right if you dont grind gears your not causing any problems whatsoever.

 

Eh? Sounds backwards since the taller tires add to the final drive ratio, so it'd be higher..So you'd do the same speed, but in a lower gear than you used too when increasing tire size with stock gears.

So say 65mph, 31s, 5th gear, 2500rpm. Then 55mph, 35s, 5th gear, 2000rpm (just a guesstimate)

Unless you're saying you don't have the power to go any faster??

 

The only real thing you should be doing is rev matching, why someone would want to double clutch is beyond me...

 

you ever try shifting with your feet? Its trickier than you might think. looks cool as **** too

 

I just try to shift very smoothly. In my car agressive 4wd launches use the clutch up intensively.

bigger tires(WITHOUT REGEARING) would allow you to get a higher top speed if you had the power.

 

Rangers are programmed to shut down the injectors when you let off of the gas and slow down. I'm not sure what year they started doing that but I know mine does it.

 

best way to show of while driving a stick is to make the ride even smoother than an automatic car does. that everyone that sits can belive that a manual car could be so smooth. and when they try to drive it feels like beeing offroad everythime they shift.

yeah^ me 2 i always slow down the car downshiffting.. dont like hitting alot the breakes.. also this helps alot when driving with a trailer or heavy loads.. another reason i love manual cars to tow or haul....

 

Umm...let me correct you for a minute...this pile of junk mazda transmissions CANNOT take a beating. I blew on up when I was STOCK on 31's! No second gear.

That thinking is backasswards. Larger tires w/o changing gears equals more wear on the disc and more strain on the engine....so if you were going 35 in 5th gear before, then you put on 33's, you'd be in lugging in 4th at 35....

 

my '92 exploder would pull out in 4-low 1st gear without touching the gas... does that qualify as a "trick"? lol

 

jajaja on flat i can pull out in 2 high . and in slop ihave even pulled out in 5th! lol what better trick :)

btw it vas a very steep hill... (downhill..)

HAHA....me.......2hi.....my little truck is using no gas to start the truck, then use no clutch to drive the truck. Got pretty damn good in the Ranger to shift clutchless when my slave took a crap. Drove it a week like that! lol.

Ranger was always a little weird to do clutchless shifting....my chevy on the otherhand, was a breeze!

any diesel truck will climb a hill in 4lo, my dad used to have a diesel chevy luv and it would go anywhere without touching the gas

 

with proper gearing, ANYTHING in 4lo will crawl w/o the gas. FYI.

No pedal action is hard to beleive when out wheelin' though. What was it? 5:13 and 31's?

 

That is called proper gearing.

 

As mentioned above, pointless in our Rangers. Really no tricks to anything, just use the clutch when shifting, unless you like replacing clutch parts.
