slowing down... down hills... does yours do this?
I have been noticing that lately my truck slows down when going down inclines when brakes are not being applied. The truck has a automatic transmission, and the rest is listed in my signature.
I kind of feel like there is still something with the rear brakes, but I cannot pin point it, everything is installed correctly, and is new.
I have noticed that besides on crazy steep hills that you really have to lay on the brakes to just live, on any other declines the truck seems to never gain any speed down hills....
Is this just myself going crazy at this point, or is this just my truck?

My girlfriend said that it feels like i'm braking when i'm not. So i'm going to think its just my truck, and something is wrong... any insight would be great!
It quickly drops when above 80 to around 50 then slows down less.

Your E-brake isn't sticking by chance or just on a little? I don't know where yours is given an auto and different year than mine, but it can't hurt to check. I know mine is just a mechanical pedal that can be partially pressed just enough to mess with you if you don't notice the light.
the brakes are backed all the way off in the rear, the parking brakes disconnected.
New wheel cylinders, new springs, new self adjuster parts, new shoes, new drums.
New pads, mounting brakets, hardware, calipers, and rotors in the front.
I have noticed that the wear on the shoes are not at full contact it seems that the middle section of the shoes are not touched but the top of the primary shoe is almost glazing.

When you let off of the gas for an extended period the computer shuts down the fuel injectors to save gas and to help braking. You can see this with a scangauge and I have tested it by turning the ignition off.
Is that the whole "throttling down" effect I've heard. I imagine it is. I've noticed that too.
With my flowmaster I kinda like the sound cause it will rumble low and act like its gonna backfire.

Stick or auto? You have to remember that when you are off the gas on a manual you will naturally slow down due to engine braking and Rangers slow down more due to the computer turning the injectors off.

Oh gee. I missed it. All well. Call the internet police. I skim through because I'm at work.
I think the truck has been doing all of its life you are just noticing now because you did the brakes. Check the ATF but I'm sure its nothing but the computer slowing the truck down.
I had my parking break disconected but when my wheel cylinder started leaking and i had my rear breaks replaced the guy said that the emergency breaks were rusted and that they were causing the back drivers side drum to always have a slight drag.
I wish i had a video camera, I would take a video of it... my phone does it but it would have to be in the day. Maybe that would help people tell me
Im going to try and get a video of it tomorrow or something. I think it may be normal.... maybe it is not. I just remember it kind of gaining speed a bit down hill, or holding still on the speed. It just seems like alot of down hill resistance.

but my moms x5 is very noticeable when it does it. happens right when you let off the gas. but if you give it the littlest bit of gas it coasts better.

My truck has this exact problem. When it had the stock tune it was not noticeable. Since I have been tuning it I sometimes get a transmission braking effect when I let off the gas going down the hill. I think this is because I keep the TC locked too long. It could also be because I greatly sped up the speed in which the injecyors shut off when coasting,,,

I just filled up again, I am getting 16.7 mpg.... i will fill up again in a day or two to see what I am getting. There was alot of up and down speed the last few days feeling for this tricky vibration/shaking that I am having a problem with. I live where it is mainly highways at 55 and 65 mpg.
I got 283 miles to a tank of fuel before the light came on... I usually see 340-400 miles per tank.
