Sold the '00 Ranger...
The gas prices are eating me alive driving the Ranger and I came to the realization that no matter what I did... the 4.0L OHV Ranger 4x4 would never get more than 17 mpg... so I decided to sell the truck and purchase a '06 Acura RSX-S. The RSX is getting 34 mpg and is a BLAST to drive.....

if you're trying to decide if you want a new vehicle or not then there are many factors but if your main motivation for purchasing a brand new car that is upwards of 20G's is MPG.... that doesnt really work.
I think if I could afford the switch I would would jump on an RSX as well, i'm not knocking anything I just found it humours to justify ditching a paid off truck with poor mpg with a brand new 23G car

hi Im new here but just had to get in on this one.Had a 2000 4.0 4x4 ranger running 33in tires getting about 10mpgs,sorry to say it had to go because i drive 45 miles to work everyday, traded it even for a 2001 3.0 2wd ranger with half the miles that the 4x4 had.I am dissiponted about power but starting to work on that.with the money i save on gas i can afford a lot more mods, right now i average 28mpgs.

eather you have some like 2.75 gears in that bad boy or you are doing your calculations WAY wrong... the 4cyl rangers dont even get that good half the time. i know i have one. when it was stock with 3.23 gears i didnt even get that good...

Prior to owning this Ranger... I owned a 2WD '00 Ranger with a 3.0L 5spd and the best gas mileage I ever saw was 23 mpg and that was with a K&N FIPK, Underdrive pulley and converting over to synthetics lubricants...
Rangers are nice trucks, but with the price of gasoline at $3.25 a gallon (projected to reach $4.00 by Christmas with the overseas war going on); the poor gas mileage requires I spend $65 a fillup and only lasts about 4-5 days....
I can usually drive about 260-275 miles on a tankfull which is about 15-16 mpg.... and the Acura gets 34 mpg; which is double the MPG with 2/3 the amount of gasoline in the tank (19.5 vs 13.4).

karpe you also have to factor in the fact that its 6 years newer so its under warrenty for a while still so if anything breaks its basicly free where as the ranger would be out of his pocket...

Nothings impossible. Just improbable.
Oh, and **** war and **** oil companies. All I hear all day are oil companies trying to convince us that they are good people. BAsically up here our hated governor and the oil companies are trying to push thru laws that basically Alaska cannot raise the rate at which we tax companies. I think we need a good ol' fashioned revolution!
