Sold the Escape, it's Rannnnngggerrrr time

Sold my escape today. Goin to a mechanick @ 4 to have a '98 Ranger checked out, If all goes well and the loan is approved....I will have a new [to me] Ranger.

Here it is: 1998 Ranger, Ext. Cab, Style Side Bed, XLT, 4.0 V6, Auto Tranny, Power Front Seats, No Rust, New tires, and the best part.....only 74k miles. I wanted a manual tranny, but hey, this Ranger only has 74k miles and the price is low.

I will post pics ASAP. Now it's off to work....

Of course, I would never get a vehicle that isn't 4x4. I really like that it has no rust (even on the frame). I live in upper michigan and finding a car, even a new one, with no rust is like the same chance of finding gold in your back yard.

From Michigan with no rust?

When I drove out west from Ontario and drove through Ontario,Michigan,Indiana,Illinois,Wisconsin,Minnes ota,North Dakota,Saskatchewan and Alberta, it appeared to me that Michigan has the most beat up and sh*ttiest vehicles I have ever seen in my life.

But anyways, congrats on the purchase and lets see some dang pics!

'98 Ranger

I only have two pics for now. Picked it up this past thursday...makes a weird noise while accelerating in the 1500-2000 rpm range and I'm thinking it might be a lifter knocking.

Anyway, here it is:

I'm thinking my first mod will be a flowmaster muffler. And incase it does turn out to be a lifter knock, anyone know a ballpark of how much that will be to fix (I know it won't be cheap, but just wondering).

Here is a vid of the noise I'm hearing under ONLY acceleration. The noise starts 16 seconds into the vid and you can hear it better from under the cab. (It's the noise htat sounds like a squirrel chattering.) I'm worried it might be a lifter knock or something.

That doesn't sound to good at all, not to sure what it is. I pretty much have the same truck you have and i've never experienced that.

thats not a normal sound at all, sounds like something in the valvetrain or possible red knock?

well one thing is that Lifters dont make a "knocking" noise. you can try a few things, take the drive belt off see if it still make the noise... get a stethocope and get the vehicle to make the noise then start cancelling cylinders so you can isolate it to a specific cylinder. (to me it doesnt sound like valvetrain but not too sure) pull the rocker arm covers and see if you've got a broken spring/rocker arm. or try doing a compression test
