Somebody at Ford owes me a beer.

Hi all, semi-new here, first post at least... Long story short, I'm in the middle of a slave cylinder reapir on my 94 4x4. All four bolts broke off in the exhaust manifolds and the shifter arm confused me for way too long. Was it too much trouble to simply put a bolt through both peices? I finnally got the tranny down tonight, but seriously, could they maybe have thought a little harder about putting that thing OUTSIDE the tranny? Especially if they're the pieces of crap I hear people say... Arg...

If you are just now replacing your slave on a 94 you are doing pretty good. I did mine it 67k.

And you didn't expect those things to happen on a 15yr old vehicle?

If it were just a bolt, what would prevent the arm from lifting off the stud?

Not really what your talking about.....but

Most the time when they design something there is many many many ppl working on different parts. They then put them all together. Sometimes crap is in super crappy places.

For instance I knew someone who worked for International. They had a engineer come in to look at a new truck, He said he deisnged the cab and that was the first time he has ever saw it on a truck.

Yeah, I kinda figured I'd break one or two, but I'd been soaking them daily with wd-40 for almost a week. I've pulled exhaust off much older cars, with many more miles, and have never had every one break...

Perhaps having the bolt go through both peices...

I had the exact same thing happen and thoughts.....3 of my four broke in the manifold. 3 hrs and a bottle of 02 and acetylene later they were out. That was a HUGE PITA!!

.....................I....like to party??....

Well on another note, I found a guy who was parting out a clean 03 4.0SOHC 4wd 5speed, because the slave cylinder had went out. It didn't even have 90k miles yet. I think he was broke, couldn't afford to fix it, and had bills to pay.. or a drug addiction to nurture. I snagged a few parts .. anybody need a 4.0 SOHC with less than 90k miles on it.. I can get it for around 200$ :)

Well, on paper it seemed easier to pull 4 nuts and two bolts than try to manuever that thing with no lift.......now I know.....
