Over the past few months I have been confused on what to do with my truck. I want to set it up for off road but only have 2wd. I have been thinking about maybe converting it or selling for a 4x4. After talking to some people and getting there opinions, i have decided that selling for a 4x4 is a wast of time and money (although it would be nice). So here is what I have decided...

I am going to keep my 4x2 ranger for now.
I plan to lift it 2, mayby 3 inches (body lift) and get some lights put on it.
As i think about it, there really is no place to go off roading in my area anyways so I may use 4x4 very few times(mostly in winter). When the time comes (money wise) I will sell and buy a 4x4(but no rush).
Sooo,
what do you think of my decision???
What kind of lift kit would you reccomd and how tall, 2 or 3?
With the 3 inch, what else do you have to extend becides the steering wheel?
Who wants to help me install the body lift????
Any other ideas or comments, post em.

 

I'd do blocks in the back 2" over stock, and spindles in the front 3" if you do a suspension lift (this will "level" the truck) -- not too expensive or difficult to do and I think easier than a body lift and doesn't require all that brou-ha-ha with bumper brackets and all.

Body lifts I see are mostly PA (Performance Associatees I think is the company). I'd go the full 3" as I've seen it on a Ranger and it looks really good. LeftOfEdge (Jason) in our area has a 3" body lift and 33's and it looks great.

 

id go suspension. they not only raise the body but get your vitals up higher as well. by vitals i means electronics, chassis, and engine components. they dont just get the body in the air. and, as john said, you wouldnt have to deal with bumper gaps and such.

you could always convert your truck with a straight axle. lol. might be a bit pricey though.

 

Ya i thought about suspension, but there guite expensive i hear.
I wasnt planning on spending that much money in lifting on a 4x2.

 

yeah i would def go with a spindle lift... im just not a fan of body lifts though

 

You can get spindles from SuspensionMax (Doetsch spindles) for $305.00 shipped. You just have to tell them Patrick gave you a price of $259 for them. They try to charge you $279 for them. They weigh almost 50 pounds so shipping is about $45.

Additionally, SuspensionMax will sell you the spindles and rear blocks as a set for about $350 shipped. This is not so much more than a body lift.

 

I did both body and susp. lift adn am happy with it

It is for me. I have to drive this truck for a little over 2 years more and I want to keep offroading. That's why I did the Auburn selectable locker and the bigger rear axle, as well as the lift and bigger tires I'm putting on.
