my parents always hassle me, well mostly my mom. my dad likes wat i do to my truck, and my mom has learned that every car in the family except hers will have aftermarket exhausts on them.

girls... they think its odd that i love my truck as much as i do, yet they still keep coming around and wanting to take rides

i know how that goes, life revolves around truck, work, school. truck is high priority, must stay clean and spotless must stay clean and spotless must stay clean and spotless must stay clean and spotless must stay clean and spotless

i catch most of my grief from my dad. Hes always saying how I can 'be doing other more productive' things. yet, if i didnt take care of it like I do, and was so **** about it, hed btch bout that too.... its really a lose/lose situation.

though I must admit, I am a bit OCD about keeping it clean. Ask D, he has seen it dirty ONCE. to do the bare bones basic wash takes atleast 30 minutes. cause you gotta wash it with a sponge, or my special brush, and then dry it with 5+ towels (that are SOLEY used to dry MY truck) that usually takes 1/2 hr, and i usually at least hose off the undercarriage.

then about once a week, depending how what mud holes - if any i have trudged thru, i do the under carriage with a stiff bristle brush, and some OB. and go to town, wait for it to dry, and apply fresh paint where its needed to cover up any rust. I also keep my engine CLEAN.

I also wax the truck 3-6x a year. Dad says I spend WAY too much time on it, yet he used to dust off his corbette when he was a kid.... Which reminds me, I do need to get a feather duster LOL!

ya, so, I have months invested in the truck, either thru modifications or just detailed maintnence. Like when I rotate my tires, when my tires are rotated, everything is cleaned, primed and painted with fresh paint so it stays rust free. I cant stand how people will wax their cars and then let the undercarriage look like crap, it drives me nuts! I even go so far as to wax my skid plate once a month!

Mom doesnt really mind it, actually encourages me to do it. However, dad still hates the waag bar and the two KC's on the front... he wont let it go as i like it.... keeps sayin i should sell the whole package on ebay lol

oh, and dad has fought me on every single thing I have done to my truck.... he actually couldnt believe I went up to the shop and grabbed the new headlight and spent 3hrs painting it, calls it a 'complete waste of time' this coming from a man that has never left anything stock in his life...

Before I became interested in cars, my parents had the same mentality. They never even changed the oil! They never knew why they had a bad engine...

Fast forward...cars are breaking down right and left, and there is always a car in the shop. Next, my truck is always used as the reliable transportation, and I begin learning & maintaining all 6 vehicles. (big family)

How many of you feel calmest when underneath your truck? Cleaning & Armor-all -ing the dash? Wiring up a subwoofer?

Last night, I crawled underneath and looked at things for about 10 minutes or so. A good breather....

the reason I work on my truck so much is probably because I don't have a GF nor a great social life... so the ranger is my baby and I spend prolly 5 hours a day on here...

I'm guilty of it. I take pride in my Ranger. It's not an obsession for me, it's a lifestyle for me. While I haven't done any major mods to it yet, simply because of the lack of money at the moment, I do take pride in the truck, washing it every 5 days at the most, usually 3-4 days. I detail the interior on a weekend basis, and can't stand the normal every day clutter in the truck.

..
I do feel calm. I'll go out, look underneath the truck and relax.

It's funny how people give me grief, then the people i'm hanging with turn around and are as obsessed with their trucks as I am. It's my safe place, I have to drive it on a daily basis. My parent's don't get it, my brother sure as heck doesn't get it. People have pulled pranks involving my trucks, I simply tell everyone this, you can prank ME all you want, but you DO NOT get my trucks involved

thats cause most of us have a VERY VERY short list of people that are allowed to drive our trucks. And we never get to see it 'on the road'

for me, the only 2 people allowed to drive my truck is Julie, and D. other than that, no one is allowed to even move it.

She's perfect. I convinced her to buy and install a lift on her jeep, and I taught her how to install it/use a bunch of tools.

Oh yah, I added the under eyes stripes to her face. Girls apparently don't like dirt on their face.

About driving by shops to look in the glass as the truck drives by..I Love it, I do it just about every time I go through town =)..
As a matter of fact,,, I broke my wrist the other day and have a cast on it,, Later this evening I will "bag" up my cast and go change the oil..And my buddie is comming over and we are going to work on cleanning up the frame a bit for the summit Fest...

I used to get grief from my parents all the time and when I moved in with my Grandparents, but the now understand that it's just my hobby. I don't spend nearly as much time and money on it as I used to, but alot more of my time and money will be going toward the Pinto now.

My wife says I am crazy for (taking a perfectly good truck and cutting it and rewiring it and stuff) HEY I'M MAKING IT BETTER:) She does get annoyed especially when I ask her to TELL ME WHAT SHE THINKS of my latest mod and she looks at it and shrugs and says looks nice. THEY JUST DON'T GET IT:)
