cold air intake

im thinking of putting a cold air intake on my truck
do they help at all or add any power
i was always wondering

I'm sure someone is going to say that the stock intake is a cold air intake and its enough for the engine you have blah blah.

Honestly the stock intake is a cold air intake since it draws air from behind the headlight. The intake alone wont be enough for you to notice any gains on you butt dyno but it will give you a few more horsepower. It will help more when you do other mods like headers and exhaust.

For intake selection try and get one that isolates the filter from engine bay heat. I had a K&N FIPK but it sucked in hot air. Look at Volant or S&B. These will be more expensive than just simple cone and tube intakes but they are worth it. Or you can make something if you good at stuff like that.

Even the roush airbox off of eBay is better than the K&N. Like fddriver said you want something that will seal off the airbox from the engine heat.
