stepside bed is fiberglass???

Ok, I may sound stupid but I have been reading posts and hear people saying that the stepside beds are fiberglass?

I put a magnet on the side of my bed in different locations and it stuck to it? It's an 04 FX4. Could someone clarify??

If it is indeed fiberglass i'm kinda mad, I've had experience with fiberglass on my previous cars and I hate it.

I was wondering the same thing about my '01, after reading a post that referenced the fiberglass stepsides.

Everything you see on the outside of your bed IS fiberglass, with the exception of the tailgate. The INSIDE of your bed ( the Area that would be protected by a bedliner) is steel. any questions?

why would you hate it? that sucker is never going to rust!and it will resist a dent better than steel. i take my fiberglass bed over the steel one anyday. cant imagine how much ti would cost to stamp a flareside bed from steel

I think I got it...that would explain why certain parts the magnet held stronger...because of the inner shell

And that would explain why i looked down the fender flares and notice waves in the paint...just one reason why I hate fiberglass.

They should say that when selling the trucks. I would have bought the flareside instead

Flairside is a stepside......you mean Style side or fleetside...they are the ones that go straight back, no flair or Bulge over the rear wheels.

That may be an idea in the future. I'll see how it holds up..I've only had the truck about 4 months.

Thanks for all the responses. I knew I could find the answer here!

you shouldnt have waves in the paint from the factory. More like an orange peel effect maybe? i know mine was perfect from the factory. but since then it has been repainted... still came out great and i love it, but we knew we wouldnt get the bed to look like new anyway. although it is dang close.

One other bid of information you may not have known is the "High doom hood" is also fiberglass.
