EMERGENCY!! Need help with Xcal 2.
My dad has an 02 Ranger 4.0 with the extra low emissions stuff. His CEL came on yesterday. I have an Xcal2 that I bought this year for my 99 Ranger 4.0. They arte both supposed to have OBDII, yet when I plug my tuner into his truck to pull codes it acts like it doesn't even get power. Need help ASAP!

I do not know offhand whether or not the one-vehicle rule applies to reading ODBII codes, but i'll find out.
With the one-vehicle allowance, once you put a tune on the vehicle, it saves your stock tune for future re-tuning if needed. Once this has occured, the X2 actually VIN-locks itself, so that it will not work on any other vehicle UNTIL the original VIN vehicle has been re-tuned to stock.

I have a feeling you knew before I posted that.
I think we've decided dad is going to get the BamaChips Custom Eliminator Switch Chip. He is going to get a 87 Performance, 87 Torque, now we just gota figure what else he wants ot get for the remaining 1 or 2 programs. We will probably order from you tomorrow Bob. I think mom wants to get it for him for his B-day present next weekend.

I can see a reason why, because once you pop the PCM open, the PCM's warranty is voided. I know you(Bob) and probably other's had problems with the chip messing up their PCM and having to buy a new one.
The programmer is alot better and doesn't cost much more than a chip. Plus you can just set the PCM back to stock if you need to take it in for work. Plus like you used here, it can read codes and erase them.

yeah i had an apten on mine too, but after a few months it fried my PCM, probably either because i installed it wrong, or the beach weather corroded the connectors some. at any rate the most common failure is not a manufacturers default but a problem causes by the nature of the way it mounts. its for that exact reason that doug does not want to sell them any more, or plain chips either, because they are so unreliable. now rand if you installed yours well (which im sure you did) and its kept sealed and kept from moving around, it should last just fine.
