Suspension Rebuild Order
Suspension Rebuild Order
I just received parts to rebuild the front suspension on my 98 Ranger XLT 4x4.
I'm going to be replacing the following:
Lower Ball Joints
Upper Control Arms
Inner/Outer Tie Rod Ends
Sway Bar Links
For folks that have done this in the past, do you have a suggested order on what to replace first? I was thinking starting with the upper control arm and working my way down to the lower ball joints.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks

Hey, make sure to grab some camber adjustable bolts for the upper control arm while you’re at it, Rockauto should have. It helps the allignment guy sent the camber if it needs a bit of adjusting compared to a regular bolt as it has a offset washer on both sides.
Id pulled off the upper control arm then the knuckle out the way, then hammer out the ball joint and press in a new one,
Next, get the inner and out tire rod removed and pop in the new one and push out the way,
After, if your doing the shock replacement meant pop that in, and knuckle back on with the upper control arm in.
lastly install the sway bar link as you may have to jack the assembly to get pressure off link while you bolt it in.
( don’t have to remove the knuckle if you don’t want to mess with the axle nut but it’s annoying to have it in the way)
