tailgate not working

tailgate not working

hey yall i was using my truck togday to carry some stuff around. i had been putting my tailgate up and down all day find and then i put it up one last time and when i went to let it down the last time it wouldent open, the handle comes all the way up but the gate wont open, i cant figure out how to get into it to put the rod back on the handle( im assuming thats whats going on) anyone know? thanks

I think there is a metal plate on the inside of the tailgate right behind the handle. Yoou have to remove it to gain access to the mechanisms of the handle.

do i have to take the inside of the gate off? bc i cant lay it down to get anything. why cant it be sinple like the z71 and the handle just pop out to let me get at it lol

Not the whole inside of it.

If your tailgate is like mine, there's a 6" wide plate that goes the length of the gate. It has like 8 bolts holding it in. If you remove that it'll give you access to all the inner-workings of the latch.

aight man thanks, ill look at it in the morning when its light, just made me ill because i need to go pick a dog box up i bought on monday and if the tailgate aint working it aint gonna happen lol

Yes fx4me is dead on, I just put a tail-gate lock on my gate and now it won't open, piece of ****. Just when I needed to load the ski-doo this happens, there are two rods from the "scissor" arms, you can turn the rods to remove the slack, or pull the little tiny lip out to release the rod. Good luck

that happend to me like few days ago..i removed my beldliner and the cables that pull the mech jsut came off..so i poped em into place and was done with it in 20 seconds..should be easy
