When i take off the rear end like clunks after you have stated moving...it isnt a noise its kinda like a jolt like its taking up slack somewhere...i have tightened the u-bolts as tight as i could get them and checked both universal joints and they are good..driveshaft dosent move when parking brake is on side to side or front to back...i dont understand what it could be....i hope yall can understand this

well its been doing it for a while..i have no idea..i havent thought anything about it until my buddy tonight said something about it

 

If your truck is still under warranty take it to the dealer. They will more than likely replace the driveshaft. Even though you said it doesn't move, it's a part that you can't move by hand. The slip yoke that goes into the transmission binds. It's been a common problem with rangers and other fords. I took my truck in for the exact same problem and they replaced the driveshaft.

 

Mine does the exact same thing. The only fix I know of is traction bars.

See if you can elimnate that block and it will help (longer leafs or AAL if you don't already have it)

 

Search on "slip bump". There are many threads about this. I fixed my slip yoke problems permanently with traction bars after trying the temporary regrease method.

 

hey steven, i hve been having this same problem with my 99 3.0 forever now, i just havent had the time to post something up. but i did however ask someone about it, and they said it has something to do with the torque converter, and that is common on all automatic 3.0's.

i also go to school for auto mechanics and i jus did some work on a 98 ford ranger ranger with a 3" lift and 32's, and we replaced the rear drive shaft's u joints, and that however did not change the fact that it was jolting off the start.

if nothing else, get under the truck and check your transmission mount for cracks or any signs of extreme wear. i had this problem on my 93 ranger and i replaced the the mount, then it ran fine. dont ask me how but it worked. just something to check for.

 

its is the slip yoke, happened to my truck also, i took off the boot and re greesed the shaft and went away and now i got traction bars so it never does it anymore.

 

Just grease the slip yoke, I'm about to do mine right now.

 

Hey Ricky would you take some pictures of how to go about doin this? My truck's been doin it for awhile and I just figured it was supposed to. I may have to get me some traction bars sometime soon.

 

some lifted trucks have problems with this. the driveshaft changes angle just enough to cause it to bind up and the suspension droops on accel. and when it tries to slide back into the transmission, it binds on the shaft, causing it the bump when it lets free.

 

Yup I will. I tried to do it this weekend, but I couldn't get the axle to slide in far enough for me to do it. I have to losen my u-bolts and slide the axle out a little to drop the DS. That means I have to correct my pinion angle also. (off topic).

I'll get pics when I do it htough.
