Thinking on buying a 2010 ranger sport 4x4 fx4
I just moved up to the yukon, its right beside alaska for you americans
just so you know the terain. Anyways i'm in the mark for a 4x4 and i'm kinda stuck on either the ranger or toyota tacoma. I'm basically wondering how the ranger fx4 4x4 does in off road conditions, also how is the automatic trans on these for off roading or is the standard much better? and what kinda of mpg can i realistically expect with city driving? Or any other reason i should pick the ranger over a toyota tacoma, thanks for any and all advice.

Yeah ^^^^^ and the biggest thing the Tacoma has over the Ranger is the aftermarket support.
The Ranger's are really really cheap now. I just built one quick off Ford.ca.
A 2010 Ranger super cab Sport w/ FX4 package (manual trans) will run you around $22K with the $6K discount off the delivery. (not including taxes)
A 2010 Tacoma Access Cab V6 w/ manual trans will run you around $29K (not including taxes) the upgraded packages SR5 $30K & TRD $36K
I'd print off both the Tacoma and Ranger specs and go through them point for point. Doing your homework prior to going to the dealerships pays off.
Good luck

ok what about the off road capibilites of a 2010 fx4, I'm planning on going down some very rough trails for fishing/hunting and by trails i mean there aren't any trails lol, also what kinda gas milage can i expect from town driving (going to be a city driver during weekdays) also what about the trany my gf wants the automatic so we can get one with a auto start for those -40 winter days up here, but if a manual is much better for off road i'll grab one of those. Also how does this thing do in snow and ice? living in the yukon we have 9 months of the stuff. I know this is alot of a questions thanks for any and all help.

Manual verses automatic is realy about personal preference. Or as I like to say driver verses operator. I have an 04 Level II FX4 package. It is my work truck. It frequently lives in the mud, plays in the sand and rocks. Almost 100,000-miles. If I could buy the same vehicle again new I would but Ford in their infinite wisdom stoped making it. Torsen is making a front limited slip differential for the D-35 IFS. I get 16 to 20-mpg (manual). That 4.0 SHOV and the 4:10 axle ratio with 31s is a recipe for skinny pedle fun.
This is the Ranger Forum wso don't expect to many taco people.

whats do you guys mean by sl in the back? I'm a total noob with this stuff. Also how good is the 2010 ranger 4x4 fx4 off road package for off roading stock? I'm not looking to put much for after market crap on here.

Ford Ranger Pickup Trucks: Ford Canada

so anything about a ford rangers off road capability in stock 4x4 fx4 model? Going to need it for hunting/fishing/hauling and getting to very difficult places mud/waters/rocks/down trees ect.. I've saw some videos on youtube might for all i know their stacked with after market stuff,
Pretty much some Cranked Tbars with a Prekey mod. and some 33 10.50s or stock wheels or a Body Lift with 33 12.50s and some different wheels. Get some nice Mud tires I think that would be the best close to stock way to do it
