tire pressure monitoring system
tire pressure monitoring system
I have an 06' xlt 4x4....
i was looking at my cluster the other day and noticed the tire pressure monitor icon.....
I dont think i have that system, never daid anything about it i my papers....how do i know if i do or not
also, ive never seen it light up like when i put my key in the ACC position.
i thought they didnt start putting these on rangers until like 07 or 08....
someone inform me please

easy way to test. air down to like 20 psi on one tire and see if the (!) light comes on. it should look similiar to that. they started using it on some of everything starting in 04 believe it or not. they just randomly put it on vehicles. but mostly it was higher end. so i dunno.
Nope. They make one cluster for a majority of the models to save money. I have a cruise light but no cruise.
Throw all the sensors in a wheelbarrow tire and pump it up. Then just keep the wheel in the truck.
thats a good idea :-)
mine has only gone down once thats when my tires were at 25psi, since then they have a service announcement for all 07 fords concerning the rubber tire valves, that they may crack causing premature loss of air pressure...

you cant adjust the pressure for the computer? ik the corvettes have it where you toggle it w/ some buttons on the cluster and you can change the tire pressure for different tire sizes or pressure preferances. whyd they make this manditory anyways?
They made it mandatory for the same reason they made seat belts and air bags mandatory. Safety.
Here in Canada, the tpms isn't mandatory. However, to save money all the north American models got them, and no dealership I have found will disable the system, as it is safety equipment.
So has anyone verified that putting all the sensors in the spare works? I don't want to go to the trouble to put them all in there if its still going to set off the light.

It depends on the system, some sensors need to be spun to send a signal and if he truck sends a signal say every minute or so and there is no signal maybe 3-5 consecutive times, then the sensor will trip the light. Just having air around the sensor may or may not work. Like I said I have read of both cases. Never had a new enough vehicle to confirm.
