I have a 2005 ranger egde 3.0L 2wd and i wanted to get a locker to get some more traction in the mud... i wanted to get some opinions on what to exactly to buy for the cheapest price, because i have no idea

 

First of all you have to figure out what axle you have. Do that here.

Then you said cheap so look into lunchbox lockers. They are locked all the time until you make a turn then it unlocks to let you turn.

 

Powertrax no-slip has my vote.

 

dont get a locker get a limited slip a locker will eat your tires on the road and make it harder to drive in wet and snowy weather

 

The locker unlocks when you make turs so you don't where tires. If it's wet or snowy out just be easy on the gas and you will be fine.

 

A fully engaged locker will be a pain on dry pavement, but a LSD will not be the most helpful off-road. An automatic locker like a powertrax might click slightly while entering a turn, but from most users they say it is hardly noticeable. Clutches on a LSD will wear out and become less effective and need to be rebuilt over time. Both have their pros and cons. I want the no-slip due to its lack of maint., easy install (handtools in a driveway and not pulling the gears), and relatively cheap price compared to a selectable locker.

 

or, if you have some $$$ do the best of both and get an ARB or E-locker

 

What do these lockers or limited-slip rear ends cost?

 

which one? An E-locker for a ford 8.8" is around $900 or so. They go down from there. Cost to have them installed varies.

 

From summit or equivalent store, $430 new + shipping for the powertrax no-slip...about $100 less for the lock-rite.

 

ok i read all that and now i am confused, i am looking for a locker too and want something that is good quality, cheap price and disengauges when turning, or soemthing i can activate on the fly

 

Do you want good quality, cheap price or selectable? You can't get all three.

 

Anything you can activate on your own is not cheap. ARB is like $800 and then you have to get a compressor to run it and get it installed. E lockers a just as much minus the cost of a compressor.

I have the Powertrax Lock-Right and I love it. It disengages around turns and you can pick up a new one for $300. It's been beaten and abused and it works great.
