Tow straps (Please read)
When I used to live up north I've pulled dozens of ppl out of the snow with various straps or rope. I've never needed to pull that hard. They do most of the work themselves. Actually pulled a full size Chevy out with my Honda civic. Usual they need maybe a 100 or 200lb boost to get over the hump. When pushing by hand only supplies 50-100lbs almost gets them there. Different scenario if your dragging a dead vehicle out of the ditch then yeah. But most cases I remember the vehicle has dug itself into a rut of ice and rocking back and forth they are 90% of the way out and just need a boost for that last 10%
safety is still #1. But in my experience the weights needed aren't anywhere near 4k lbs of pulling.
