tranmission

I have a 89 ford ranger 2.3l 5 speed non 4 wheel drive its my first truck and it needed some work. It needed a freeze plug in the back of the block so i had to pull the tranny. my buddy pull the shift out while it was in reverse and couldnt when we put the shifter back in couldnt get it to shift. we figured we would figure it out later and proceeded to to pull everything. needless to say we got everything off replaced the freeze plug now we are putting the tranny back in the only problem is it will not go in we tried turning the tranmission turning the motor by hand everything it still wont go in, any idea or tips?

you will need to move the shift rails all to the center and the shifter will go in in neutral. there are 3 shift rails and the one farthest to the left should be the one that is moved forward, put a screwdriver in there and bring it back to the center. is the trans an M5OD-R1 or a Toyo Kogyo TK5?
