Transmission Time

Hey Guys,

So my transmission is toast. i've been limping on it for awhile, ever since I overheated it wheeling last winter, but now its on it's last leg. It's burning and leaking fluid and struggling much more consistently. I think it's that time. Anyone replace theirs or have theirs rebuilt? What am I looking at price wise. My Jimmy, back in the day, was around 1800 rebuilt.

About the same. Go for a five speed swap few hundred dollars cheaper and much more fun.

That would be badass. They sell kits for that or is it up to me to find all the parts?

1800 sucks but i can still fathom it. I started looking at used rangers in the area but i've done so much to this one i'd rather just fix the tranny lol

Same with me i love my truck and a few thousand here and there is still way better than a payment and no kits but i did mine I've got a thread with a parts list i think i was out the door about $1600 although my thread a says 1800 i need to edit that but i had to have a $400 tune for emissions reasons but if you don't have emissions or they don't care if the vin in the PCM matches then you can shave about $300 off that price.

Just looked at the thread. That looks like an awesome project, but time is a factor. This is my DD and I think the tranny is gonna die in a week or so. I already contacted my transmission guy and told him I will probably be stopping in on Friday haha. It sucks cuz that would be an awesome alternative. He quoted me in the low 2000 range.

Yeah thats why i decided on the five speed but its not a bad project i did it with some ramps and a floor jack in two days with an extra set of hands it can be done in a day. Low 2000 is not a bad price for a quality rebuild.

You know were I went in Woburn I paid 2900 for my rangers to be fully rebuilt with a shift kit. Adam drove it and loved the way it shifted.
