My co worker had an O3 edge 4.0 stick and the 3 years he had it went in 27 time for transmission problems the last time they brought it out and said it was good to go and he pointed to a 06 Jeep wrangler and said good I want to trade it in on that , he said the techs jaw hit the ground when he said it .
I dont know Ive heard some horor storys lately about 03-04s but with anything thats mass manufactured there will be a lemon or 2 Im sure your drivng has very little to due with the actual problem just my 2cents

haven't had any problems with mine, but we'll see after the rear end is rebuilt if I did anything to the tranny... I'm expecting it. As that point, I'll use the rebuild of the tranny against Ford when I find the class action lawsuit I'll be jumping on for the rear end.
Could be worse, my dad's 99 Hyundai (biggest piece of crap) had the first tranny go out at 30,000 miles, second at I kid you not 100,032 miles, 32 miles OVER the warranty, and the 3rd tranny at 120,000 miles. I told him to get rid of the piece, and he's got it parked in the garage since it won't move now.

shouldn't be any difference between them. The only difference is the 4 speed auto and the 5 speed auto.
According to wikipedia
"The 5R55E, though mechanically identical to the 4-speed 4R55E, was a five-speed transmission, the first produced by an American maker. The ability to produce five forward gears is by improved software control. The 5R55E introduced adaptive shift control and sophisticated friction to friction shift ability. The 5R55E introduced Directional high energy frictions and eliminated all but one thrust washer with high-capacity thrust bearings. It was the first 5-speed electronically controlled transmission in an American vehicle. It was designed for the high-torque 4.0 L SOHC and 4.0 L OHV Cologne SOHC V6."
and the 4R55E was "used in 4.0 L six-cylinder versions of the Ranger and Explorer."
So there isn't much differences, though it never said anything about the 3.0L. My guess is that they did the same thing with the 3.0L they did with the old 2.8L in putting a heavier tranny behind it as to not "fry" the tranny. However, Ford's are known for crappy transmissions. I was lucky my E4OD in my Bronco lasted as long, and I'm surprised my Ranger's has 152,000 on it

ok so i called the shop an it was nothing i did the is a clutch in the trans that is suppose to engage on e way an free well the other way but some how they both engage tearing up just about every thing 2500 dollars worth so i have to wait till the warranty company oks it to get it fixed. The service adviser said that it only cost 2526.00 to get a rebuilt one i thank that is that way they are going to go.
