Uh Oh
Most of the 4x4 guys here buy and build there trucks for moderate to severe offroading, that's why we coin the phrase "pay to play" it comes with the territory, and all part of it. He wasn't complaining about it breaking and was more excited about the upgrade he gets to do now.
DAMNIT HOZ! You just had to say something in response to DJWayne, didn't ya?
While I agree that it's good to keep your vehicles in good repair, that doesn't mean you can't have fun with it.

ooooo...what year truck!?!??? I know the early '02 torsens got recalled for doing this. Later years, didn't get recalled.
I assume that's the Ford Racing Disc Conversion kit? Which is basically all explorer components?

Ok this isnt good news, a few weeks ago I started noticing a clunk coming from my rear end when i put my truck into reverse.
I have called ford about the recall since mine is a 5spd 02 Fx4 but the guy looked my vin up and told me over the phone there is no recalls for my truck.
Guess I'll be in the market for a new differential here soon too

Torsen only came in the 31 spline 8.8's Mikey... So you don't have to worry, like grant said. It was ONLY FX4 specific... 2 years of the Torsen.
I bet with the miles on mine, if I had a Torsen, it would have been long gone.
Its an '02 Fx4 auto with just over 50,000 miles, I bought it in January '04 with only 9400 miles. And, yes its the Ford Racing Disc Conversion kit. I've wanted rear discs since I got the truck, I just never wanted to pull the axles for no mechanical reasons. At least it will be completely new bearings and seals when I'm done.
My 02 Torsen tanked on me a while back also. Now i got a torsen off of an 04 with less than 20k miles on it. its almost brand new. so far so good. lets keep it that way. I hardly ever spin on pavement at all since that day. Maybe once in a while when its wet or bark em but never again will i power brake or spin em like crazy. lol
