WANTED: large hole to bury my truck.

After replacing my bent drive shaft I thought all was well. I drove about 400 miles with no problems. I was driving down main street about 30 mph when I heard a thud, thud, thud so I pulled over and stopped. I took off again at ilde and thud, thud, thud again. I stopped, shifted to reverse, backed up a few feet, shifted to drive and it was gone. Today I drove up and down main and only heard a thud once. I really think it is coming from the rear end.

I removed the rear wheels and inspected the brakes. All looks good there. I really have given up on this truck. I suppose the bent drive shaft messed and rear axle up somehow. I do like the truck but now I feel I can't leave home with it or it might fall apart.

It's going back to the shop ASAP for a look over. The dealership I bought it from paid the first bill, I bet they will LOVE another. I know it's hard to diagnose a problem over the internet but what the hell is happening here?

first not enough info on the truck to tell.

one thing is there was a recall on the level 2's for the traction lock in the diff was bad maybe yours was never done or it sounds like it could be a U-joint which is easy and cheap

Ford recalled the early 2002 FX4 manuals only for the axle replacement, the FX4 automatics were not recalled. The Torsen L/S could still be broken, though.

Just back from a 30 minute drive, made no bad sounds.

I plan on having the dealership drop the diff cover and look stuff over. Who knows?

If I could trust this thing I might spend alittle money on it on a few mods but not right now.

Well for the hole I might be able to help, my dad owns a Caterpillar D4 bulldozer and a 50's Bantam dragline crane. I'm sure either my dad or brother would love another excuse to play with either one of 'em.

I have an 03 torsen ls, and it broke ..... blew up the spider gears, it was more of a grinding sound though, not a thud ..... let us know what the dealer says

I think he was just asking for a more specific response than "I'm with stupid" which I could understand, though I don't think you did anything wrong.

Anyways, when my U-joints went, it was more of a squeaking sound, like jumping on a spring mattress that was worn out. I actually thought it was my leaf springs doing something funky.

Could you tell us how you managed to bend your driveshaft? That might help lead us to a better answer.
