Bored with the Ranger....

I know people see and read these threads all the time, but I figured what the hell. I'm bored and figured i'd post up my thoughts.

I like my Ranger...but love it? Not really. I already have a 4x4 I like way better. My Ranger is only 2 door which is inconvenient. I can only seat 1 other person.

I could mod it...BL, 33's, exhaust, other basic mods. But overall i'm not 100 percent happy with what i'm starting with...like I explained above, so i'm hesitant about modding it. I use the bed once in awhile, but not a lot.

Plus I really have the itch to go fast. I've always driven trucks...and a turbo sounds damn fun. I also think it would be fun to break off into another world, and mod a car instead of a truck.

Here is a car i've been looking at. 06 Subi WRX.

http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/2353472535.html

Anyone think the price is fair?

What do you all think I could get for my Ranger? Its an 05 XLT 2 door extended cab 4x4. 4.0, 5 speed, 43k miles. Pretty clean...

Was in a minor front end collision 5 months ago. Airbags deployed, and front bumper needed to be replaced.

I feel the same as you, thats why I have to change something once in awhile on my truck to keep me interested. I`ve already had the go fast cars and is all they did was get me into trouble. My ranger is 10yrs old and 48K on the clock and have thought about getting something different but I know how my truck has been treated and buying used "in my eyes" is just asking for more troubles. You got to do what you think is right in your situation and make you happy.

PS. When I had my "go-fast" cars, one thing to remember....If you want to play prepare to pay

Already been down this road. You can see the decision I made. I want another Ranger but it's strictly going to be a trail rig, not a daily driver.

I love my Ranger but hated driving it all the time. Let's face it, they aren't luxurious or even that comfortable. Luckily I had the option to keep my Ranger when getting a new vehicle. If it wasn't paid off when I got a new truck, I would have traded it, at this point in time though I'm glad I didn't get rid of it.

I don't mind driving my beat up rig everyday. Going to college and work, I keep mulling over the idea of just keeping the ranger and buying a beater to drive. but i also want to upgrade my ranger, then do an SAS or something, I've never really wanted to go super fast all the time, I want to crawl rocks the size of cars that do go fast.
but for now, i'll probably just upgrade the ranger, drive that until i get enough parts/money to SAS it, then buy a beater.

Getting tired of your ranger?! seriously guys? If ever you get tired of it, well.... you should of gotten tired of it 20-30yrs ago rather than here in the 21st century! A Ranger is a Ranger.. A good day to day truck with alright mpgs with decent towing capabilities especially since the last time it was updated was....

I have a beat up ranger that has taken hell from 3 previous owners (I know it has) as well as able to do what I demand it to do. If you want luxury go be some sorta wussy that has there royal A$$ satisfied, or get a Lincoln for driving 1ce in a while. Other than that be a man and drive a mans truck -Ford Ranger, the little f-series.

i would have gotten another mustang in a heartbeat but fast cars get boring after awhile. i drove mine hard and was lucky to never get a ticket in the year i owned it but i know if i still had it, i would prob have a couple by now. i just got sick of not being able to go snowboarding, camping or mountain biking and had to bum rides off of friends. Atleast if you get a wrx its got Awd.

I'm all for rangers. buy my 4.0 (that was beat to hell by 2 P.O.) has 180k on the clock. and i drive about 600 miles a week. i spend a TON of time in it. there isn't anything wrong with it, i like being able to park in smaller spots and still being up tall. but i want to go big or go home. so thats why i want just something else to beat the living hell out of while i make the ranger awesome.

I hope you're kidding...otherwise you sound like an idiot.

Its natural for people to get bored with things. Why would I have been bored before I bought one? I've never had one so I couldn't get sick of it...

I understand what a Ranger is. Its a simple truck. People who are simple are satisfied with what they are stock. I however am bored with it, and need to make a change.

I have another truck anyway. I can do all the 4-wheeling/hauling/towing I need with that.

How do I sound like an idiot? People get board yes, but the thing that most Americans have become accustomed to is I want what I want the way I want it right now. Basically spoiled non grateful SOB's. Other people including myself have learned to be grateful with what little we have, make the best of it and not complain as to not have the latest piece of fashion crap. The Ranger does the best at what it was built for, and if you can't appreciate that then go get a Falcon Lexus prius.

I have been bored with the ranger.

Actually what killed off my interest in the ranger, was that accident I had in the summer of 07. That pretty much wiped out the 'interest' in the truck. The other life happenings, put the Ranger at the very bottom of the list.

Now I use the truck, well actually I rarely drive it at this point. I fill it up about once a month. I drive something else that gets even WORSE mpg if you can believe that LOL

I dunno, just dont really give a crap about the ranger. sure I care, but its like, I have a list 10 miles long of **** to do, the ranger is the LEAST of my worries. Hell I have over $600 in new goodies to put on the ranger that are sitting in my shop collecting dust.

If it wasnt for the fact that, mechanically the ranger has been extremely dependable, And that I use the truck to haul different crap especially durring the summer, I would get rid of the truck and get something else... like a new Mustang :)

However, the Ranger's utility aspect really is appealing. And, to be honest I still enjoy driving the ranger. Sure its not a Lincoln, but then I didnt drop $50,000 on it either. Though I do have leather seats =P

Then again, the Ranger, is pretty much 'done' Everything thats waiting to be added to the truck are more or less 'maintnence' type crap... Not really adding anything to the truck.

Definantly watch out for the WRX trans. Buddy I work with has a 05 wrx and he had to replace the trans. Also REALLY watch out for signs of it being beaten, beaten= its gonna throw a rod.

That being said before my buddies threw a rod it was a fun ride

Also I LOVE white wrx's they look so good. although I like the hawkeyes more

What's the big deal if he wants to get something else besides a Ranger? I fail to see how wanting a different vehicle translates to being a "spoiled ungrateful SOB".

a spolied ungrateful SOB would spend a ton to have a superlifted ranger, with dana 60 front axle, giant tires.
then want to sell it or trade it the minute its finsihed for a new mustang.

Well let me start with that I am a die hard Ranger driver who has heard this story time and again in different scenarios. Multiple times I have heard people complain that the ranger was to boring when it was already known that the ranger is "old news" of 20 or 30 so years with minor modifications compared to what is out there on the market. Basically many individuals committing to the purchase of a Ranger should already know this isn't the "hottest of gadgets."

I joined this site to see what fellow Ranger enthusiasts had to say about there rangers and to learn more about my truck, as I was expecting people who would actually appreciate the truck for what it is, not for what its not.

I can appreciate that, and I'm sure everyone here does. People's needs and wants change though. So although we all like Rangers it's just not practical for everyone to have one forever as their sole source of transportation. That doesn't mean they like the Ranger any less, it just means they have "grown" out of it for whatever reason. I am sure you can understand that and am sure you won't have a Ranger forever either.

i'm simple (not the stupid kind) and am satisfied with mine. i don't wanna spend the money on a fullsize, don't need bigger nor does the mileage bother me (the cost of fuel does).

with that said, i'm surprised that i love my ranger since i need change. at work i always take a piece of work that has me doing different things. i need the variety. i can't see how the senior drivers take the same route, mon-fri, 6am-2pm, all the time. it's boring and would be boring knowing where i'm gonna be and when. the piece i have now does 4 different routes so i'm not noticing it as much.

i think you are thinking this way since you already have a rig w/ 4wd. if that bronk wasn't there and/or you had something else w/ the ranger, i'm sure you might love your truck a little more. of the two, bronk or ranger, i'm not sure which one i would keep. i've have a bronk and i could afford the gas/mileage of it now since i barely could when i was younger making 1/4 of what i am now. but it's nice to have the bed if i need it and i don't carry more then me and 1 or 2 other people. which is similar to a bronco w/ the rear seat folded, gate open w/o swing tire or maybe a small trailer if need be. the only diffenrece there would be the removable top .

I hate my ranger to be honest. Because I want it to be what its not. I got it when diesel hit 4.00 a gallon cause that is stupid to run a one ton truck when you dont have to. But I had it in my head the ranger would do the same stuff, pull the same hills, and have the same seat of the pants feel. Well its a ranger so it doesnt. But what ford wanted it to do it does well. Gas mileage is good. Its easy to whip around town. And it can haul my dirtbike if id like. But its an easy vehicle to get bored with for sure. There isnt much to do to them aftermarket-wise due to the fact they are cookie cutter trucks. I am already bored with my ranger and Ive had it 2 months maybe. They arent exciting trucks but never were they meant to be.

Now to the O.P. if you want a new toy/dd/whatever you would call it then go for it. Cause worst case they make more rangers everyday and Im sure you can find your way back into a fresh one that makes you wanna play the ranger game again

Save up your $$, drive your ranger, mid June when the 2012 mustang GT-500 comes out, buy it. Base package has 750hp or install smaller pulley for 800hp only cost between 80-100K Now thats a go-fast car.

Actually when I do get a newer vehicle I do plan on it being a Ranger, there just isn't anything like it anymore. I like the practicality of the Truck with simple yet interesting design that is very controllable and not to big as to feel small. I understand what your saying, but like I said before, this is Ranger-forums, the place for Ford Ranger enthusiasts.

An enthusiast is just a person that is highly interested in an activity or subject. So in this case it doesn't mean they have to own a Ranger, have owned a Ranger, or have even driven a Ranger. It just means Rangers "interest" them. I understand your point though. At the same time, this forum encompasses a lot of topics and areas so these type of threads are to be expected from time to time when a person wants to move on to other vehicles.

Good talk. :-)

First non beater vehicle was a 93 ranger, lowered, 17"cobra Rs, shaved lights, rollpan with supra tails, and the list goes on. I decided when i was 18 that I wanted a car because the truck was crappy in the snow and not that fun anymore, flash forward 8 years and I would kill to have that truck back, i would give twice what is was worth to have it back, I say get a different car if thats what you want but you wont miss the truck till its gone.
