Installed? you didn't waste any time.

I did a search. Looks like it started in the 60's and made it through most of the 70's.
if anyone knows what makes it different than an F100. Or were all F100's a Ranger?

The ranger package was from 1965-1982. You could have a F-100, F-150, F-250 and F-350 Ranger.

My father had a '79 F250 Ranger w/ a 429 & 4spd.......it was a bad ***. I don't recall seeing any of the 80+ body style having ranger badges. I believe it's '79 and older.

http://www.broncograveyard.com sells the emblems that say "F150 Ranger" with the F150 over the word Ranger. Since I have a 1978-79 F-150 front suspension on mine and F-150 wheels now, I'm going to get some of those badges and replace the straight Ranger ones on my truck.

Ranger, Explore, edge and expedition (Probably some more that I can't think of were all former Trim Levels, turned into models. I know for a fact you could get a F100 Ranger in 68 as my neighbor had one. When it emerged I sadly can't say, but I would probably guess mid 60's to either 81 or 82, as it became a model in 83

Wikipedia say 65 was the first year and 81 was the last FWIW

Above is a 1968 brochure that went to the sales dept, not the customer.

It had color matched cloth-like vinyl upholstery!

this is indeed correct. also availible was ranger custom, ranger xlt and ranger lariet. the lariet moniker lasted until the change over in 1992.

the explorer package ran paralell with the range package for a few years into the 80s where the last explorer was in 1985 or 86.

BTW, bright trim is alminium trim that has been treated to a special dipping process to make its appearence "bright".

Ford loves to take trim level package names and turn them into their own vehicles.... the most recent i can think of is the Edge.

i wonder if there will be an FX4 vehicle some day

Its most likely because Ford would already have the name trademarked making the process a little easier.

Just a random note.. sort of a dig up i suppose.. but no better spot to put it..

Coming back home from Portland on I-84 today, I saw a perfect condition F100 Ranger on the highway.. sort of an olive drab green, nice chromed highlights, hauling a flatbed with some tools in the back.

It looked so awesome, sure wish i had one :-(

Ford also used the name Ranger on Bronco's as well, mine is a 78 Bronco, Ranger XLT. I don't have a close up of the emblems right now.
