Need to replace bearings on 98 Ranger
Alright, the drivers side bearing needs to be replaced, but I figured I might as well do both sides while I'm at it. How do I go about doing this? I've never replaced bearings before, but I don't think it's too hard. What do I need to do this? I've seen full bearing and hub assemblies, but I think that is only for the 4x4s and not my 2wd. I think all I need to do is replace/repack the bearings, races, and seals? Are there any detailed how to's on what exactly needs to be done (I haven't found any). Any help would be appreciated as the drivers side bearing is pretty much shot right now... Thanks a lot

Yeah it is just replace the bearings, pack them, races, and seals. They are houses in the rotor. The rotor is held on to the spindle by a nut under the dust cap and the caliper bracket which is held by 2 bolts that are torqued like no tomorrow. They factory lock-tite them. I couldn't break them loose by hand, I had to have a shop do it with an impact. When you re-torque them it takes 85 ft-lbs and some red lock-tite, don't half a** it, if one of those bolts falls out and you lose your caliper (which happens around here quite frequently oddly enough) you can can flip your truck.
If you have packed bearing before then it is super easy. I would go with TIMKEN bearings and Valvoline bearing grease. Or Fords grease.
If you don't have massive muscles or an impact wrench good luck with those caliper bracket bolts.
