if he ever had a problem and could not prove he used the "recommended" grade of oil he may encounter a large repair bill if ford decides to deny his claim.
I personally have seen Ford deny a warranty claim because the dealership didn't do the oil changes.

The owners manual on my '97 showed using both 10w-30 and 5w-30. Climate, altitude, and other factors go into what grade oil to use.

something about fuel economy and bearing clearances.
huh. Do they allow for different altitude and climate conditions breaking down oil faster?

MY fiance's taurus has the 3.0 vulcan in it and the owners manual says to run 5w-30, that was in 1999. Recently the dealer told me that 5w-20 is recommended for here car. After running it one oil change that way, the cars valve train was too noisy IMO. Now we are back to 30 weight and the car runs much better. I am starting to think any oil will do....lol

Thanks for all the input. Looks like I'm going to Wal-Mart even though I don't like shopping there...... but I'm assuming Motorcraft is made in USA. I hate going to the dealer cuz they charge 3x for everything. The other day they quoted me $40 just to program a spare key which took me all of 10 seconds.. what a rip off.

Yea and to think that their marketing used to be "Made in the U.S.A.".

The dealership is competitive on their oil prices.

For programming the PATS key, that was cheap. If you had 2 keys you could have done it yourself.

I am not for or against wal-mart, but!!!! 98% of everything on every shelf is made in China, not just the shelves at wal-mart.....

That being said, I only buy my finace's oil there because its cheap....
