Why can’t we stay on topic ?

In my short time here I have noticed one thing about this site that bothers me, “Most of the threads get off subject so fast I can’t believe it".

We need to get together on this and stop wasting time running off at the mouth about things that don’t apply to a given topic/thread.

If the Thread is started to go off subject then the Moderators should step in and make adjustments or the originator should have the option to mark any post for deletion that they believe is off subject and have a moderator review it.
If this idea was in place, it is possible that we would have less BS added to posts because people would know it was going to be deleted and after some time it might stop altogether and the posts would be shorter, to the point and an answer might come out of the information added.

The reason I posted this idea is because I read three threads this AM that went all around the topic with at least 5 pages of postings about there home towns, the differences between the US and other countries and if the countries were in prison who would be the ***** and I think there was never a final posting on the subject. Some post to the threads changed the topic altogether, ya the poster said “I am sorry about this” but where does that go. I have suggested to some that they start their own thread but who am I.

I am sorry if some people think this is *****ing or whining, w/o the cheese and crackers, but I wanted to read about some new ideas and things that people have done to there Rangers and got a lesson on *****es and *****ing.

Thanks for listening and I am sure there will be other opinions added; please do so !

Because its a discussion board and we as men tend to lose focus and BS about anything and everything. We do the same thing in day to day conversations away from the computer. with out all the $hit talking the post would simply be left for dead in the archives.

Scrambler, if the option to mark a thread for deletion were ever installed on this site, the moderators would have tons of crap to sift through from people being "butt hurt" on the internet. However, if you come across something that is getting way out of hand, IE, the Canada vs America/cup holder thread, you can personally PM a mod, and they might be able to clean up the thread right then and there.

One of the best things about this site is that it is not over-moderated and we can get off topic without it being automatically deleted. Some of the threads that have gone way off topic have been my favorite reads... ever, and I hope this site continues to stay that way.

Thinking about it, I agree with both of you but they are just ideas.

This AM it just got to me, I opened a post to get some ideas and 5 pages of trash… I don’t think there was a final on how the project was completed.

Well, as you guys have said it is a discussion board.

Thanks for the replys

I agree to an extent, but it is an internet forum. As such, I can't think of any topic that is truly important and requires only that the replies be to the point.

Agreed, if we did that then we would have the other half the site complaining about us over moderating. I understand stepping in if it gets totally out of control or the OP requests it but other than that I don't think its required.

Seems like to much structure to me. Do you ever get off topic when you're having a conversation with somebody in a face-to-face situation? Think of how boring this site would be if all that was on here were questions and straight answers, nothing but. It'd be pretty boring to me.

Or...how aboutwe all just stop posting? I'm sure 99.99% of the questions asked in new threads have already been answered in another thread....

It's a forum, stress reliever, fun times, etc. Some people take the Internet way to serious.

If we did that the forum would implode. LOL.

And I bet this has never been answered before: How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

surely, you guys can see that the helpfulness of threads get watered down when there are 10 off-topic posts for every 1 pertinent post.

furthermore, it is very difficult to search when 99.9% of the threads are filled with dribble.

there is a good sense of community and "closeness" on this forum but we could do better to answer questions and or collaborate of ideas in the technical sections especially considering there is an off-topic section.

I don't really see what your are seeing. There are many how to and technical threads out there with tons of info.

Oh...have you ever thought about getting a BACKRACK?!
