this is why i dont like step sides
this is why i dont like step sides
because i seen a drunk guy punch strait through one before. bare fist. That contributes to my non liking of them because they are weak. i dont know what year the ranger was that he punched through but i think it was later 80's or early 90's. I dont remember what the stepsides are made out of but do they make them stronger now days? i hope so. Also, i was wondering what the concept behind having a step side is?
fiberglass.....but i don't think the 80's early 90's are fiberglass though. The Splash's were stepside...they have fiberglass outer skin, w/ steel tailgate, steel front panel, and steel inner bed.

i thought it was so you could drive in a mud pit or something simliar and stop and get out of your truck, step on the stepside, and hop into the bed for some reason or another.
step sides started in 1993.. yes there fiberglass. i like them personally better... you mess up a side you can get a whole side it just unbolts and get a new one and bolt it on.. unlike a steel style side if your stupid MORON friend would have punched it, it would have maybe broke his hand and dented where you have to bump out the dent OR drill out the spot welds which there is tons and weld in a new bed side..
personally i have dealt with step sides before and he must have punched a part with a crack in it.. because they are quite strong, def strong enough to take a hand punching it... also depends where he punched it....
but just the shear fact your friend did this shows his mental capability... personally i hate stupid people....

The first reason I wouldnt have one is that I have to carry 4x8's around once in awhile. The second is I dont like them with caps on and I like my cap on my truck.
Now if I had 2 Rangers the other would be a reg cab stepside 2wd to use as a summer toy
