Window covers/louvers

I'm looking to order some for the side window of my extended cab. How well do they hold up though? I read how to put them on and it's with some type of tape so I was curious

Why would you want those? I don't really see how they do anything to a window that is fine as it is. And they do look like they are from a previous generation.
