Began my conversion to synthetics...
Well, as of last night, I am working on cleaning my engine out from any carb build up and nastiness, to get myself into a fully synthetic lube through the entire vehicle.. ran seafoam through the truck along with half of it in the crankcase.. drove it around a little last night to evenly distribute it and clean the throttle body/everything else out... then drov eit around today after work for about an hour.. finished changing my oil with some standard cheap nappa stuff.. only goign to put about 500 miles on it before I do another seafoam treatment.. hence, the cheap oil.. then get myself a full assortment of Royal Purple or Amsoil synthetic for every lube I can change myself...
Does anyone here happen to have a ready list of just what I need for it? And whats the standard oil weight you use in your synthetics? I usually run 10w30 for my engine oil, and wondering if I shoudl switch down to 5w30 for the synthetic.
I know I'll need the oil itself, I'll also need the ATF lubricant for my front axle, some good gear oil for the rear along with the additives.. as well as the ATF for my 4x housing thingy (cant remember its name)
Anythign else any of you can think of that I should try switching into for the synthetics that I may not have known about perhaps?

transfer case? I run all royal purple everything. 5w30 is what i run. Dont think atf is used in the front differential. I also run synthetic brake fluid. And when i had my little problem involving power steering cooler.....all i had was royal purple atf....so i've also for royal purple there. Use a K&N filter.......and i swap out my 5w30 at 5k and same with the k&n oil filter.

1 hp-2010 K&N oilfilter
2qt Royal Purple Max ATF(for the TRANSFER CASE)(What about trans?)
3qt 85w90 Royal Purple gear oil(not positive on amount or viscosity)
I like to use the Copper Silocone on whatever needs silocone. Forexample, your rear end diff cover.
Don't worry about swapping your steering fluid(atf). I did mine because my cooler sprung a leak, and to swap a new cooler in, all the fluid drains out, and had to swap fluid because of it.
While your at it, might as well swap to a Goodyear Gatorback belt, or check your belt. Have you done your fuel filter yet?
I know you've got your plugs and wires and such on their way.

Will end up switching out my fuel filter, O2 sensors, I'll clean my MAF here tommorow (Or tonight. I dont mind pulling into the barn and getting a few tools out this late) .
And thanks bud, thats perfect... just what I was looking for! I was reading up the list of all the different 'things' to purchase and I was like uhhh... theres like 40 different types of fluid here..!
I'll price it up and see where it will put me in a few weeks after I do my second set of seafoaming and finally switch out.

Yep, I am actually looking at using Amsoil instead of Royal Purple..
Amsoil has a storage bay out in Portland here, and just by sending 20 bucsk to become a prefered member, I save over 40 bucks for my intial buy-in of all my fluids and such.. including 12 quarts of oil, 12 quarts of ATF, oil filter, fuel filter, and a couple other things.. additives and such. I can orde ronline, and go down and pick them up.. saves oodles of money.

I would rather spend 10 bucks of gas getting there and back.. then 40 bucks on shipping and taxes per order

Depending on how many miles you have, I'd suggest doing an Auto Rx treatment before the switch. Not to start a "which oil is better" war, but I'd give some thought to the Royal Purple 5w-30 choice. Many UOA's (used oil analysis) have shown that Royal Purple quickly shears to a lower weight (5w-30 to 5w-20).
