wreck update

well alot of you know i got hit by that mustang. i had an estimate done and they think my damage will be in the $2500 area, or possibly totaled. (yeah thats dumb) but i found the part of the bed i need for $250 and thought why not throw in an edge hood and thats gonna be $150. i know who will be painting the truck and i havent decided yet on my body work. i might do it w/ some friends. dont know. i really hope the stupid insurance people come give me my check soon though. i was there when they looked at the mustang but he wouldnt look at my truck even though it was right there 50 ft away from him. but anyway the mustang was NOT totaled but its got more damage than my truck is even worth. ill let you guys know when i get the check and might even have some money left over I HOPE!

if you didnt see yet

Just for your own knowledge, if they consider it to be a total loss. They will pay you what the vehicles worth, not for the repairs. (seems fine since you will be getting cheap parts)

But dependant on state, they usually report that the vehicle has been deemed a total loss to the state. Meaning you will have to file for a salvage title for the vehicle. So after its repaired it wont be worth anything to any dealers and whatnot via trade-in.

Private party would be fine since they would see its a salvage right away.(says so on title if you file for salvage title)

Sucks, but insurance co's have to do it.

Just stuff to consider.

well the guy thats painting my truck told me if the damage gets to 70% of the value of my truck they can total it but i have a say in it too. i think ill come out good though. i dont have bent frame or anything so it should be ok.

Damn work website wont let me see pics, crazy that it totaled. Could prob tell you why its totaled if i could see the damn thing.

And yea, 70% is when they should "consider" it being totaled, if you tell them to add the value of your modifications, you can prob sneak by if they do it.

Tell them you want to file a Diminished Value claim, that would for sure make them fix it and not total it. lol Insurance Companies hate diminished value claims.

the new cars have the crumple affect so the body of the car takes most of the energy from the accident. it doesn't surprises me that the car has around 8-10k in damage with labor. its a huge job to put a new quarter panel on. it needs a trunk probably the panel that goes between the quarters and rear bumper and probably some other things. and it doesn't surprise me at all that they are fixing it.

dude your truck is not totaled by any means they gave me 1800 for when my truck got hit have you seen my truck lately im guessing there going to give you around 2k for the repair and your truck is worth around 5-6k.

Once you find out the numbers on each car im curious on the number esp on the stang.

Yeah, coming from a guy with a brand new truck in his avatar. But as you can see it's in really good shape and you don't see him crying about this that and the other going wrong with it all the time.

Mine is 7 years old and has over 250k on it. If I had it wrecked in the same manner his is, I'd fix it and drive it for another 250k.

LOL! 5-6K on that truck!! Meaning mine would be 4K if it sat with only 3" lift. right... lol That's why I could only get $3,500-$4,000 for it.

It might be totaled because if the cab corner is F'd then it will be too much to fix it. The insurance companies do not see any mods. They see a 10 year old truck with 2k-2,500 in damage and say well its not worth it so totaled. Could very well be totaled but would suck if it is.

You can put your foot in your mouth now.

What im saying is that hes taken care of his truck, which is why we dont consider the fact thats its TEN YEARS OLD, doesnt matter how well its taken care of, its a ten year old vehicle.

You dont see what i see, i do this all day every day for a living. Its things to consider, im not knocking the guy.

So why should be total a perfectly good truck that just needs a new bed?

Oh I know why. Economy stimulation. Make him buy a new truck and jack his insurance rates. The guy's 17 years old. I think it's in his best interest to just put a new bed on it and drive it as it is.

I'm just sayin, it's what I would do if I was in his position. I'd rather pay a few hunded bucks out of my pockey to slap a new bed on it and paint the ned. I could care less if the scratches and dents in the cab didn't get fixed. He's still young, so an insurance claim is just going to kill his insurance rate. I know, I was 17 when I got in an accident and I went from paying $200/mo on a 16 year old Toyota to paying $500/mo. Now I'm 23 and pay $180/mo on a 7 year old truck.

DAMN!!! I pay less then $100 a month on my truck lol. I was only pay about $100-$110 when I had my 96 too. So 2 vehicles full coverage for just over $100 a month.

A claim will only hurt you, if your filing against your own company, it would show as an AT FAULT accident, hes not at fault, hes the victim here. His rates would not go up due to this accident.

And if you didnt have selective reading, you would have read that while i agree with what hes doing(going about it with self bought/cheaper parts) the insurance company doesnt care what he does with the money afer their decision is made, and he is paid.

For all they care, he can pocket the money, and drive around with a smashed truck.
