00’ 3.0L flex- starter won’t disengage

Hi there, on my third starter. 🤦-♂️
tested the solenoid on the current one, no juice when key in in the on position, crank it over engine starts but terrible grinding at the bell housing/starter connection
bolts are tight, no shorts in the cables. Issue arose after hitting original starter with a hammer to start it for 2 weeks... I’m not a car guy but out of necessity I can do most part replacement that’s not internal.

Ignition? Thanks fellas
I do appreciate the community help

Remove the starter and inspect your ring gear, look for chewed up teeth.
You should have replaced the starter at the first sign of trouble rather then using a hammer for 2 weeks.
