I'm glad you said this, I was re-reading the thread for the 4th time and thinking that I missed something, I can comprehend Dell's outsourced tech support better than this guy
My SVT focus, had the ABILITY to go 136 MPH on PAPER. Which means, the gears would allow the car, to go 136MPH at 7,200 RPMS in 6th gear at stock weight.
Unfortunatly, it only had 170HP, which is not enough to pull 136MPH. The wind resistance at that speed is incredible.
Now what kinda HP are you putting to the ground? That made you go 145MPH? And if your tranny blew at 145 MPH, in fifth gear, it would have locked up. Since you are here typing, that didn't happen, you'd be dead.
So, what's the truth here?

I *think* the latter of the 1.8T's had 180hp, my sister's '99 had 150hp and it felt pretty peppy I thought. The VW's arent limited to 100-120mph like a lot of domestics are, they'll actually tach out if you let em.. what were the RPM's at that high of a speed?
my mom was telling me about a guy that bought a $120K mercedes and the engine blew 1 block from the dealership, had less than 2 miles on it, and he had to sue mercedes to get them to cover it under warranty.... i dunno what happened with that tho.
